Job Description

 

GENERAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to provide direct homeownership (promotion and preservation) and lending assistance to network and non-network members and partners, with specific emphasis on greater collaboration and coordination with our National Initiatives & Applied Research (NIAR) Division. This position includes a lending specialization and homeownership program skill set.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work closely with District staff in Organizational Underwriting analysis and grant making, especially the home ownership campaign, and all of homeownership programmatic areas.
• Inform and advise NeighborWorks® America regarding strategic direction from network experience and feedback within the home ownership line of business. Identify strategic issues NeighborWorks® America should strive to address.
• Work with NIAR staff in coordinating national initiative and assisting NeighborWorks® organizations to address performance issues as well as initiative related challenges.
• Remain up to date on trends impacting the home ownership line of business within the district.
• Maintain knowledge of foreclosure programs at the national level and connect programs in district portfolio to appropriate programs. Support the Center for Foreclosure Solutions.
• Ensure that the performance goals related to home ownership are met in the District providing guidance on training and financial programs to network organizations pertaining to first time homebuyers: lending, brokering, home mortgages, home improvements and financial counseling.
• Work within a cross-corporate team on secondary market issues, including having a strong working knowledge of Neighborhood Housing Services of America’s (NHSA) products as well as other secondary market opportunities for home ownership program operators.
• Research and share current practices and models within the specialty with district staff and NeighborWorks® organizations, insuring best practices are communicated and replicated as appropriate.
• Monitor performance of District NeighborWorks® organizations engaged in the home ownership line of business with assistance from NIAR.
• Sustain knowledge of state housing finance agencies(HFA’s) and other resource opportunities and match products with network demand in the District.
• Promote methods to increase minority home ownership rates within the district.
• Advise and counsel for issues within the specialty for District staff and NeighborWorks® organizations.
• Network and participate with professional organizations within specialty.
• Coordinate lending related training and special projects.
• Performs other duties as required.


 

 

 

 

 

Skills Required

 

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of a Bachelors degree in a related field plus a minimum of 8 years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience delivering technical assistance or project management in single family programs.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal and inter-group relationships involving a variety of persons and groups of various socio-economic and ethnic compositions.
• Familiarity with the most commonly used loan origination, underwriting and services software packages.
• Demonstrated experience-at least 5 years-in nonprofit management, mortgage lending, real estate development and/or home ownership development and program activities, including customer outreach, homebuyer education and counseling, lending, property rehabilitation services, and post-purchase activities.
• Demonstrated management of multiple complex and large-scale projects in a fast paced team environment paired with the ability to meet critical deadlines. This includes managing budgets, timelines and coordinating with a diverse group that will include but not be limited to staff, consultants, and advisors from within and outside the NeighborWorks® network.
• Accomplishments that reflect teamwork, integrity, effectiveness and efficiency — including demonstrated leadership, ability to influence and bring about consensus, and to work independently.
• MS Office products proficiency required.
• Excellent written, auditory, and oral communication skills.
• Maintains regular and timely attendance.
