Job CategoryAccounting/Finance/Insurance Job Location US-CA-Irvine StatusFull Time Position description As an Accounting Manager, you will oversee the general ledger accounting and financial reporting for a number of mutual funds within our American Funds family. We are seeking an individual who has demonstrated an exceptional ability to assess performance, provide feedback, and develop team members to deliver superior business results. As Accounting Manager, you will oversee the daily and periodic accounting responsibilities, including determining the daily net asset value of the mutual funds. Other responsibilities include: Work with Managers and Fund Treasurers to report fund information to fund officers and Board of Directors Oversee fund financial reporting, including annual and semi-annual reports, SEC filings and Board of Directors reports Analyze accounting and investment impacts to general ledger and tax reporting Review fund transactions, including dividends, interest, corporate actions, fund and portfolio purchases and sales Lead special projectsIn addition to routine responsibilities mentioned above, you will have the opportunity to work on special projects involving new business issues and to present mutual fund reports to fund officers. You can also expect to work collaboratively with your peers to manage resources, enhance work processes, and improve overall service delivered to our internal and external client groups.QualificationsThe qualified candidate will have: Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or a related degree Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, finance or a related function At least 2 years of management/supervisory experience Flexibility to work additional hours as needed during peak business periods Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong computer skills, especially in Excel Demonstrate an exceptional standard of quality: this involves accuracy, attention to detail, organization and self review skills, thoughtful analysis and problem-solving, and accountability for excellent results GAAP and SEC reporting experience a plus, but not required General knowledge of mutual funds and experience in the investment management industry a plus, but not required CPA or MBA a plus, but not requiredWe offer excellent salaries, a progressive environment and a premier benefits package that includes: Medical, dental and vision coverage effective day one Three weeks vacation in year one 15% of annual salary plus bonuses contributed by the company to your retirement plan, up to IRS limits Generous educational assistance Health club subsidy Paid, comprehensive training programs Team-oriented working environment Business casual dressWe are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
