Invest in you! The Small Business Development Officer (SBDO) is responsible for the small business development within an assigned territory which includes a cluster of branches.  SBDO’s coordinate small business selling efforts with those branches and cover the prospects within all of the markets defined by the assigned branches. The SBDO assists branch and Regional Managers in achieving their small business loan and product goals. The SBDO interviews new and existing small business loan applicants to gather information relative to their business needs, abilities and earnings to determine whether loans may be an acceptable risk. Initiates, negotiates and packages Small Business Banking loans, cross-sell’s business products to existing customers and prospect business customers through an organized calling program, and  assemble loan packages and handle loan closing.  To be effective in this role, the SBDO must generate qualified referrals to other bank departments, including consumer business to the branches within assigned territory.  Additionally, the SBDO will work with the appropriate branch to assist in the seamless hand-off for the branch to handle all future relationship management. Active participation in external community activities is required in order to promote Union Bank of California and to develop a business referral network.Requirements for the SBDO position include: A proven track record to meet and/or exceed sales targets and close sales. Ability to recognize customer needs and match them to bank products. Effective communication skills with all levels of clients and management. Strong customer service and organizational skills. Working knowledge of bank business loan products and services.  A basic understanding of Small Business Lending.  Familiarity with the interpretation of business financial statements.   Union Bank of California offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including a 401K plan.
