SVP, Commercial Lender, Team Leader

 

Due to a recent promotion, a healthy $450MM state chartered mutual bank in central Massachusetts is currently seeking an experienced Commercial Lender to take over management of the commercial lending department.  This individual will oversee a healthy portfolio with over $90MM in loans outstanding, as well as assume management responsibility of three Commercial Lenders, one Commercial Cash Management Officer, one Commercial Credit Officer, and administrative staff.  They will be expected to coach the team, to maintain a safe and profitable portfolio, and to achieve modest loan, deposit, and cash management goals on an annual basis.

 

Essential Job Functions: Commercial Loan and Credit Department

 

Management: Manage the Commercial Lending Team on a daily basis, providing guidance and recommendations on customer interactions, portfolio management, and loan structuring and underwriting.  Oversee the department’s workflow.Review financial analysis prepared by the Commercial Loan Officers and Credit Officer to verify accuracy and completeness.Supervise the continued development and training of the Commercial Lending Team, to foster continued personal and professional growth.Establish work standards, evaluate the Commercial Lending Team’s performance, and provide timely feedback and annual performance reviews.

 

Business Development: Actively participate in an ongoing business development program with new and existing customers.  Foster relationships with centers-of-influence to create referral sources.Meet with customers’ senior management, and visit their facilities, in order to understand their business and evaluate their efficiency.Evaluate prospective loan requests.  Review customer’s financial, credit, and tax information to determine the viability of the loan request, and structure the appropriate loan structure.Negotiate terms with the customer, keeping in mind the Bank’s loan policies, and all federal and state regulations.

 

 Portfolio Management: Manage the loan portfolio.  Review each customer’s financial status and operations, to assure that the loan remains sound.Obtain up-to-date financial information on each customer, and analyze this data to ensure compliance with loan covenants.Maintain a credit file on each borrower, including financial data, correspondence, and any other pertinent documents.Review lines of credit annually.  Make recommendations on renewals and extensions of credit.Develop workout programs as necessary.

 

 Requirements: 15+ years of progressive experience as a commercial lender.Formal credit training, strong analytical skills, and the ability to review and interpret financial information.BA in Accounting or Business Management.  MBA desirable.Working knowledge of loan documentation and banking law.Credit department management experience a plus.Strong communication, leadership and management skills.

 

Compensation and Benefits: 

Base Salary…TBD based on experience

Bonus…Annual discretionary incentive bonus of up to 20% annual base salary based on achievement of strategic corporate goals and the Bank’s performance against peer.
