Over the next 2-3 years, we will be evolving this platform to handle the increasing volume and complexity of the business. A user base close to 1000 across trading, middle office, back office and control functions, with transaction volumes in the millions per day.The front-office risk management system has organically grown to include middle- and back-office functionality and data. The major effort will be to disaggregate this system and create normalized services aligned with the business requirements. Specifically, the following services would be created:a parameter service used by both the pre-trade and post-trade groupsa reference data service used by front-, middle-, and back-office groupsa position keeping service that aggregates derivatives and cash equitiesa data store to provide the definitive representation of an otc contract to all groupsa valuation service used by pre- and post-trade groupsa life-cycle management service to document and execute the workflow related to instrument/trade event processinga distributed data caching and notification mechanism across all dataWe are looking for a candidate with experience in middleware to link these services together, particularly creating a data platform with technical components used for caching, CRUD, and object relational mappings.The role requires that the candidate be technically exceptional. This includes:experienced work with all aspects of java and related technologiesknowledge of relevant 3rd party technologiesexperience with source code control tools(specifically Subversion)experience with programming distributed systemsexperience with multi-threaded applicationspractical usage of design patternsdiligent use of unit and acceptance testingworking with client/server environmentsmust be able to accurately and pragmatically estimate development effort requiredperformance tuning of large systemsproblem solving in both the development and production environmentsprogramming and design of database services (specifically Oracle/Sybase)experience working in unix environment (specifically linux)experience with communication technologies(tcp/ip, sockets, jms, http) There are no people management responsibilities; however, the candidate must be able to interact with other developers. This interaction includes but is not limited to mentoring and evangelizing technologies that just make sense.The candidate is expected to hit the ground running with limited guidance. Candidate should have infectious energy inspiring others to deliver at a high-level. Candidate is expected to operate efficiently in a team context.Candidate should be a fast learner. This includes new technologies and any domain specific terminology. Should be able to understand the function and behaviour of the system by just reading the code.The candidate should have a test-first philosophy. No fix or enhancement will be delivered without appropriate automated testing. Testing is essential as the platform software is deployed globally.The candidate should be able to do more with less. Should be able to see where 3rd party technologies can be applied instead of creating proprietary software. Can breakdown the solution into pieces where leveraging these types of technologies is possible.Fundamentally, the candidate must apply critical thinking to all proposed problems. Detailed knowledge of any particular technology is not as important as knowing when and how to leverage that particular technology.
