Senior Underwriter- Consumer Lending

POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:This position is responsible for the review, management and administration of all consumer credit applications including coordination of daily workflow and interfacing with branch and bank management regarding escalated issues. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Review assigned consumer credit applications, making judgmental decisions within assigned Lending Authority to approve, decline or counteroffer.• Interview applicants to develop information concerning credit request and to determine risk as necessary.• Review evidence of income submitted by applicants, to determine validity of financial position.• Make recommendations to higher lending authority for all credit applications which are above assigned Lending Authority.• Reviews and recommends new methods and procedures to improve daily operations.• Manage daily workflow and schedules to insure ongoing adherence to established service levels.• Interface with branches, bank management and vendors regarding escalated issues and service levels.• Participate in ongoing training of staff.SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:• Effective oral and written communication skills.• Ability to use various interpersonal styles and communication methods to effectively adapt to new work structures, processes, or cultures to achieve bank goals.• Ability to analyze credit applications and make sound decisions.• Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, managing time and resources to ensure work is completed efficiently and within established timeframes.• Computer literate with knowledge of Windows, Word and Excel.• Maintain effective work relationships both internally and externally.• Knowledge of Federal and State Regulations as they pertain to Consumer Credit products or processes.• Knowledge of credit bureaus, scoring, pre-screens and direct mail programs and credit processing systems.ACADEMIC BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in business related field with a minimum five years experience in Consumer lending.We are proud to be an EEO/AA employer M/F/D/V.
