Systems EngineerAIX System Administrator Houston, Texas JOB DESCRIPTION This is a AIX UNIX System Administrator/Engineer position. As part of the Server System Administration team, you will work with a team of Solaris, Netware, and Windows system administrators/engineers, network engineers, and application engineers to maintain and enhance an existing computer network infrastructure. The computer network consists of a heterogeneous mix of computing hardware and software platforms, including a mainframe, servers and workstations, using off-the-shelf as well as custom software applications. This position interfaces occasionally with internal users, developers, management, IS Engineers, and Change Management personnel. RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities include system scalability, redundancy, performance, and functionality of all aspects of SUN Hardware servers including: Break/fix incidences Upgrades projects System customization System integration Will troubleshoot complex problems with root cause analysis communicate problems and solutions both verbally and in writing to internal customers and management Create and follow standard processes, plan effectively to complete tasks on schedule, and clearly document results. Tasks will be varied and range from day-to-day Sun hardware, AIX OS, and application run-time support, engineering upgrades and new systems, to supporting process definition and implementation. You will see that operational requirements are met by understanding the project impacts to Service Level Agreements. You will participate in meetings with Project Teams, Architecture Standard Working Groups, and Change Management. Maintaining knowledge of industry best practices, system benchmarks, and overall technical acumen is essential. Will be part of the 24/7 on-call rotation schedule. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Solid AIX experience working with highly reliable/available systems, certified in AIX administration or equivalent experience. Skills in UNIX security, Veritas Foundation Suite Experience supporting Oracle and BEA WebLogic (or similar) environments Working knowledge of TCP/IP networks and topology. Typically requires a Bachelor's and minimum 2+ years of directly related experience. DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Veritas Netbackup Volume Replicator Cluster Server SAN experience Experience supporting Internet applications General Information Analyzes and designs technical solutions to address business needs. Troubleshoots systems to increase quality of systems. Identifies, investigates and proposes solutions to technical problems. Develops, tests, and modifies software to improve efficiency of internal operating systems. Provides technical support for issues surrounding software/hardware failures and the like. Monitors server performance to maintain consistent up time. Provides technical expertise where required within Information Technology Projects. Prepares and maintains necessary documentation. Other duties as assigned.
