Summary:
This position is responsible for exercising independent judgment in order to develop and implement Bank training and employee development programs, including succession planning. This position is responsible for interacting with key personnel across the Bank for assessing and addressing training needs as well as developing, maintaining, and implementing appropriate training materials. This position works in conjunction with the Human Resources Director to ensure common communication of training policies, guidelines, and other whole-bank related information.
This position directly supervises training staff within the Human Resources Department, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To include other duties as assigned.
• Analyzes, plans, develops and determines training needs and designs training programs for management and staff development to support the Strategic Plan.
• Directs training staff and conducts workshops which may include human relations, personnel administration and technical skills training.
• Plans and directs evaluation of training effectiveness, employee skills inventories and staff relations/counseling/team building sessions. Creates reports as needed for the Human Resources Director
• Develops and maintains Bank-wide succession planning program
• Develops and maintains Bank-wide mentor program as needed in each department.
• Responsible for ensuring that Learning Plans are created, and that employee development grids are properly created and utilized for positions/employees.
• In conjunction with HR Director, creates overall goals and program for BancTrain component. Ensures appropriate use of the system and works along with training staff to enter data, maintain the data integrity and to administer the program.
• Responsible for creating and managing an accurate training budget. Assesses on a monthly basis to ensure budget is followed. Re-forecasts for adjustments to budget as necessary mid-year.
• Ensures appropriate facilitation and delivery of Sales training (MOSAIC) and Retail training as appropriate for Learning Plans and Employee Development.
• Reviews and approves all training programs delivered by the Bank, to Include Retail and Sales, to ensure consistency.
• Negotiates with outside consultants for purchase or development of specialized programs.
• Independently analyzes, designs, develops, and updates training modules using a variety of media and/or instructional delivery methodologies.
• Evaluates skills of employees during and after completion of training programs.
• Assists Retail training coordinators with course material and training documentation to support the Retail Division with the tools and skills for increasing sales volume, high quality service effectiveness, and a knowledgeable and professionally oriented staff. Ensures Retail training is consistent with Bank-wide training, assists as needed and ensures partnership between trainers and Retail staff.
• Delivers instructor-led courses to employees using Adult Learning Theory.
• Delivers ad hoc training sessions as needed.
• Demonstrates content expertise and exceptional presentation skills.
• Works with managers to prepare departmental and individual employees’ development and training plans for delivery with annual performance appraisals.
• Maintains current knowledge of banking industry, First Independent products and up-to-date training procedures.
• Participates on various committees and work groups to ensure the growth and development of the organization and success in meeting the goals established in the Strategic Plan.
• Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism in representing First Independent.
• Assists other trainers throughout the bank in developing training programs as needed.
• Performs duties in compliance with all applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertinent to this department, branch, or function.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience is strongly preferred.
• Five or more year’s presentation, group facilitation and/or training experience in a banking, business or sales environment.
• Experience as a Banking/Finance trainer preferred.

• Ability to create clear and effective training manuals, job aids, and other needed documentation.
• Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate activities ensuring prescribed objectives are met.
