UNIX Administrator

Job Purpose:
Responsible for the effective 24/7 operation of all hardware, software, network and application resources within the Bank's processing environments, meeting all service level agreements for systems, links, online applications and offline reporting.
Job Responsibilities:
- Install, upgrade, and maintain UNIX Systems, related peripheral equipment, and their operating systems.
- Install, upgrade, and maintain Solaris/LINUX systems.
- Prepare and maintain documentation concerning the UNIX hardware and services, including maps/diagrams, procedures, etc.
- Configure and install productivity tools; test and configure new software.
- Diagnose UNIX Operating System and hardware problems (root cause analysis).
- Provide technical support to Production Support group including Helpdesk.
- Serve as a resource to other corporate staff, and provide appropriate user support as assigned.
- Coordinate installation by vendor(s), when necessary.
- Performance and capacity planning for UNIX Systems.
- Follow Bank of Montreal practices for Incident Management, Problem
Management, Change Management, Configuration Management.
- Participate in dealing with 24x7 emergencies and off-hours maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
College Degree in Computer Science or related field of study.
Experience in the following areas considered necessary:
-A solid understanding of SUN SOLARIS Operating System.
-Three to 5 years experience performing UNIX Administration.
-Experience installing, troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintaining SUN UNIX Hardware.
-The candidate needs to work independently and have the requisite UNIX troubleshooting skills to solve technical issues on an on-going basis.
-Ability to create new server builds via a jumpstatrt/kickstart process required.
-A good knowledge of Linux/UNIX, scripting, TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP, NIS and NFS
-Must be able to multi-task, be process-minded and detail oriented
The following Skills are desirable:
-Experience using Veritas and Legato
-Experience supporting a Trade Floor environment
-Experience as a LINUX Administrator
