ASSOCIATE SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR

Job Summary
1. Reports to licensed Medical or Scientific Director and is responsible for providing technical interpretation of results and signing reports; providing consultations with physicians, designing and implementing R&D, and approving SOP’s.  2. May also serve as the back up for the Medical Director.
3. Assumes Clinical Consultant or Technical Supervisor responsibilities as assigned by the Laboratory Director.

Job Accountabilities
1. Interprets results for medical use. 

2. Oversees and directs R&D initiatives including assay modification.



3. Monitors compliance in regards to a safe working environment.



4. Assists, as needed, in the training of technologist. 

5. Observes compliance with regulatory agencies, including inspections.



6. Monitors of quality assurance at all levels of practice.



7. Participates in working groups of related or associated professionals.

 

Assume Clinical Consultant or Technical Supervisor responsibilities in Specialty

as delegated by the “Laboratory Director Responsibilities” Policy:

 

1.  Approves of the test method selection and validation.

2.  Ensures that the proficiency test method testing program is conducted in a timely manner, reviewed by appropriate staff, and approve of corrective action when a proficiency testing result is found to be unsatisfactory.

3.  Establishes and monitor quality control to ensure that acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained for each test system.  Ensures that patient test results are reported only when the system is functioning properly. 

4.  Approves all corrective action and preventative action plans and procedure.

5.  Approves Job Assignments and Authorization Matrix (JAAM) and annual Performance and Development Review (PDR) to ensure that all personnel have the appropriate training and demonstrated performance for the type of testing offered.

6.  Annually reviews Standard Operating Procedures for test systems.

Job Requirements
1.   MD degree or Ph.D. degree and Board certified and California Laboratory Director License required.
2. 3-5 years related experience.
3. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.
4. Demonstrated good decision-making and organizational skills.
5. The capability of being continuously updated in literature in regards to its medical applications.
