Analytical Scientist

 

Elevance™ Renewable Sciences, Inc., a new specialty chemical company based on groundbreaking, proven technology, is harnessing the potential of natural oils to produce a portfolio of commercial products across multiple markets. Elevance was formed to institutionalize work started in 2004 in collaboration between Cargill, one of the world’s largest producers of agricultural oils, and Materia, a leading edge technology organization leveraging patents from the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), to catalyze the commercial production of renewable chemicals. 

 

Elevance is backed by TPG,and is a high growth business with a leading market and IP position. We are the leader in using renewable or natural oils (e.g., soybean, canola, corn and sunflower oils) to create an extraordinarily wide variety of specialty chemical products using a broad range of proprietary, patent protected technologies, including Nobel Prize winning metathesis.

The complexity of the business model stems from commercializing multiple products through multiple channels into a wide spectrum of premium markets and end use applications. While Elevance’s business model incorporates a relatively complex supply chain, the manufacturing platform operates within a low temperature and low pressure envelope to facilitate scale-up. 

Elevance begins with a revenue base of approximately $20 Million and is projected to scale to over $1 Billion in 6 years and directly addresses a $20 Billion Market.

We have strong IP protection, real revenue and catalyst technologies which are such that they create a compelling growth opportunity.

 

We are currently looking to add to staff an Analytical Scientist who will be responsible for providing overall expertise and leadership to meet our analytical needs.

 

 

Position Expectations:

· Responsible for supplying tools and capabilities that improve understanding of new products, process development, operations, and product specifications. 

· Increasing scientific understanding to set the next direction for R&T innovation.  Demonstrates in-depth technical knowledge in the development and implementation of analytical methods.

· A proven track record of delivering results.

 

Roles and Accountabilities:

· Set up lab and transfer methods to Elevance.

· Understands analytical capabilities available internally and externally.  Manages services provided externally.

· Support existing candle and new product specifications and quality

· Support regulatory work

· Support toll production and qualification

· Ensures compliance with all safety policies and requirements.

· Interprets results and applies own judgment to modify sample preparation and analyses.

· Organizes work and time to manage multiple project responsibilities, changing priorities, and deadlines.

· Maintains instruments and laboratory.

· Independently develops and writes test methods and operating, maintenance and safety procedures.

· Complies with quality assurance programs and standards.

· Implements and troubleshoots instrumentation software.

· Responds directly to customers, plants and non R&D personnel regarding a narrow technical area.

 

Experience and Education Requirements:

· PhD degree required, strong preference for analytical chemistry

· Require >5 industrial experience, >10 years preferred with experience in analytical role.  Strong preference for experience with natural oils

· Preference for manufacturing experience supporting QA/QC and LIMS implementation

· Prefer experience with regulatory approval of new substances

· Prefer experience with chromatography, DSC/TGA, X-ray crystallography, oxidative stability testing, microscopy, mass spectrometry, metals analysis, or microbial growth assays
