Applications Engineer

Luna Innovations, a NASDAQ-listed public company, is seeking an Applications Engineer for its Blacksburg, Virginia location.  Key responsibilities of the position are:

 Coordinates and executes customer demonstrations, ensuring all customer needs are met.

 Coordinates presale demonstrations and trade show exhibitions including procurement of equipment, set-up, demonstration, and discussion with potential customers.Facilitate and/or drive customer-issue resolution through technical leadership and organization relationships

 Interact directly with customers and the Luna extended sales force responding to technical information requests, design guidance inquires & problem reports related to the Luna hardware & software platforms.

 Provide assistance to customers in the proper design, programming & installation of Luna hardware & software platforms.

 Record & document customer communications via the issue tracking systems and product defect tracking systems.

 Develop tools, documentation (technical notes, whitepapers etc), reference systems, sample code and solution collateral to speed job functions and aid in knowledge transferal throughout Luna and to direct and indirect customers.

 Ensure personal career development through regular participation in new product & technology transfer training, through attendance at any outside seminars & training programs coordinated by Luna, through self-directed exploration of available reference materials, and through seeking coaching and mentoring from management and other senior members of the organization

 Ensure the attainment and maintenance of Industry knowledge of emerging technologies and their impacts to integrated solutions based upon Luna products.

 Writes internal and external reports documenting process and results of customer demonstrations, process experiments, etc.

 

To perform this job successfully, the ideal candidate should have working knowledge of National Instruments’ Labview and C++.  BSEE (or equivalent) and 5+ years of optical experience, in depth knowledge of fiber optic test systems and fiber-based communications systems and preferably a marketing or applications background. The ability to travel up to 75% both domestically and internationally
