Area Dialysis Biomedical Supervisor - (Baltimore - MD)
The Area Biomedical Supervisor (“ABS”) is responsible for the overall management of the Area’s biomedical team, including overseeing the Area’s biomedical costs, quality and teammates, as well as Denovo and facility projects. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Step into the role of a Technician in case of emergency, and to be able to expertly assess Technicians for their Annual Skills Recertification. Manage equipment, labor costs, and an effective system of biomedical-related financial and business records and facility report Review and/or approve purchases of maintenance and repair parts, tools, test equipment and capital equipment as assigned by the DBA. Ensure optimal biomedical staffing plans are developed and used throughout the Area, Minimize and optimize the use of overtime by Biomedical Teammates. Ensure the most accurate, appropriate charge-back of overtime to the center that caused it to be incurred, in accordance with the then-current Best Demonstrated Practice guideline and procedure. Develop optimal on-call coverage procedures and schedules, to demonstrate both stewardship and concern for Biomedical Technicians’ quality of life issues. Ensure compliance with DaVita policy and procedures and state and federal regulations in accordance with all requirements for patient care and services (CMS, OSHA or other government agencies). Compliance with state or federal regulations of the Injury Prevention and Safety Training Program. Participate as needed in on-site inspections by state or federal surveyors when notified. Understand DaVita policy and procedures as regards clinical teammates’ operation of dialysis machines, water treatment systems and ancillary medical equipment and apply this knowledge when trouble-shooting or assisting Biomedical trouble-shooting activities. Complete, or ensure completion of, the Quarterly ABS Reuse Safety Audit by teammates who have been trained and certified for this procedure, as well as other reports as required. Complete the Quarterly ABS Facility Audit for each facility assigned to the ABS. Visit each facility in the assigned Area in person at least once each quarter to assess and evaluate technical activities, and to ensure Biomedical Technicians’ compliance with DaVita policies & procedures. Review monthly internal biomedical audits and ensure appropriate follow up of deficiencies. Maintain an effective system of biomedical-quality, -compliance and -risk management records and facility reports. Supervise teammates, including the hiring, promotion, discipline, and discharge of teammates as needed, with approval from the DBA and if needed, the DVP and People Services Manager. Communicate and enforce policies and procedures to biomedical and dialysis teammates. Serve as a resource to all Area dialysis facilities to provide in-service and activities related to technical services. Deploy and ensure timely completion of educational programs including. Implement changes in DaVita policies, procedures, vendors and products as directed by the DBA. Support Team Genesis’ Project Managers in the design and construction of new units, and unit expansions, renovations and retro-fit projects. Coordinate the ordering of dialysis equipment and the biomedical activities necessary to obtain licensure and federal certification. Perform biomedical-related due diligence for potential acquisitions. Perform baseline facility quality assessment audits of new or newly acquired facilities, as needed. Assist with the transition and integration of new acquisitions. Participate with the DBA and DVP in development of plans and scheduling of biomedical teammates for timely and effective deployment to support dialysis facilities in the event of a disaster or emergency. Other special projects as assigned by the DBA. Job-Specific Skills 3 years dialysis experience in biomedical field 2 years of mangaement experience Manufacturer’s certification for equipment that is predominantly used in the Area strongly preferred for each of the following: (a) dialysis machines, (b) reuse equipment, and (c) facility water systems. Two years’ education in electronics strongly preferred. Valid driver’s license in state of employment. Driving record must meet insurance liability requirements. Ability to pass color-vision acuity test. Ability to lift minimum weight of 50 pounds, and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, and use full range of body motions.
