Assistant Manager, Business Intelligence
SummaryResponsible for managing one or multiple medium or large SAP Business Intelligence projects as defined by the SDLC within the constraints of scope, quality, time and cost to deliver specified requirements and meet client satisfaction.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProject Planning & Delivery * Responsible for the delivery of approved projects to build on the SAP BI roadmap, using standard SDLC & PM methodologies, adhering to Informatics SOPs and applying industry best-practices. * Ensure quality is achieved as planned and deliver to time and cost with agreed tolerances * Managing and directing technical cross-functional teams (including a mix of direct reports and project team members "loaned" from business units). Also, working with executives at different levels in the organization, where required. * Developing high level and detailed implementation plans with timelines and milestones. Update plan with actuals and forecasts and manage deviations from plan. * Soliciting and analyzing input (e.g., relevant data and information on systems, processes and procedures and business relationships, etc.) from stakeholders and participants to define current state and design future state * Communicating progress and presenting to senior management (e.g., via summary reports, memos, presentations) and facilitating discussions on IT/project issues * Manage engagements diligently through completed end product; utilizing project management methodologies to monitor and track progress of technology projects * Interface with Corporate QA, where required, on a day-to-day basis to ensure adherence to quality guidelines, processes and SOPs. Issue Management * Identifies and tracks issues in a timely manner using existing processes and tools * Determines optimal resolution of non-technical and technical issues taking into account the costs and benefits Personnel Management * Work with his or her staff to prioritize projects, requests, activities, and tasks within his or her area of responsibility. * Work with upper management, where required, to develop priorities, time frames, and resource allocations based on established Informatics goals and budgets. * Evaluate the performance of team members, consultants and vendors on a continual basis and provide feedback to management. * Leads recruitment effort by working with HR to create custom job descriptions incorporating the Informatics Career Templates and screening candidates for the interview process. * Develop technical and non-technical training plan for staff members based on individual interests and organizational needs. * Complete mid-year and end-year performance assessments for direct reports and identify development areas for growth as necessary. Vendor Management * Participate in tactical vendor management tasks, where required, such as creating SOWs, RFIs, RFPs and vendor contracts and provide input into strategic vendor management directions. * Participate in non-core Informatics initiatives aimed at improving work-life balance, team productivity & morale enhancement and HR-related standardization. Financial Management * Tracks and monitors all financial components of a project ¿ hardware, software and consulting services (earn/burn) ¿ using existing framework Technology * Improves business processes and supports critical business strategies by directing the development, implementation and maintenance of business applications. RequirementsEducation: Requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent industry experience and appropriate technical training/certification. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferable. Fundamental knowledge of Six Sigma or CMM Certification preferable. Experience: Minimum six years appropriate technical, managerial or industry experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Core Skills: * Possess an in-depth knowledge of the business under his or her purview. Works with technical staff to recommend alternate solutions to the business. * Builds support and consensus in the decision making process and is able to obtain customer "buy-in" for scope changes with minimal assistance. * Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish Informatics and business sponsor's goals through available team resources. Seeks out minimal upper management help. * With minimum assistance, is able to break down complex business and technical problems into manageable segments of work * Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects. * Ability to foster connectivity and collaboration across multiple groups in the organization. Ability to liaise effectively with all levels within the organization, across geographies and across business units. * Ability to mentor and develop junior team members using a combination of timely instruction, factual communication and motivation. Communication: * Effective technical and non-technical verbal and written communication skills required. * Communicates complex items using terminology and forums appropriate for the audience and the situation * Represent his or her department's and user community's requirements and proposals to upper management.
