Taking direction from the Sr. Buyer, the Associate will be responsible for low level commodities, placing PO's and expediting orders. Once comfortable, this individual may assist in recommending solutions and resolving problems associated with material planning, purchasing, pricing, supplier delivery, inventory strategies and/or material availability.Typically responsible for planning and purchasing of less complex commercial specified components and/or support of lower-level system assemblies or work centers. Assignments are given in specific terms with results being quantitative rather than qualitative.Responsible for material planning, purchasing and inventory levels of assigned components required to support the manufacturing build process; utilizing time-phased MRP and /or other type(s) of specialized materials and inventory related systems and reports.Escalates to appropriate levels of management, via proactive communications, all shortfalls directly, or indirectly effecting the demand/supply cycle supporting internal and/or external customer(s) commitments and/or expectations.Responsible for monitoring and maintaining accurate and aggressive standard product costing for assigned components.Ensures strict supplier compliance with Abbott Laboratories Product quality and workmanship standards and engineering change orders.Analyzes material requirements and shortages, working with Production Control, Production, and Manufacturing Engineering, implementing timely corrective actions and/or alternatives to meet production schedule demands and/or revenue requirements. Escalates problems as required.Responsible for meeting key performance measurements in regards to applicable/appropriate part numbers including on-time delivery, quality inventory levels and purchase price variance.Identifies supply problems relating to applicable/appropriate part numbers and determines the potential impact of on-time delivery to customers. May assist in troubleshooting problems and implementing solutions.Responsible for the timely processing and resolution of all assigned DMR's, SCAR's, RMA's, Debit Memo's etc., insuring the timely accurate and effective coordination of all material returns and paperwork reconciliation through to resolution/completion.QualificationsThe successful candidate is required to have Associates Degree or equivalent experience. One to three years in material management is highly recommended. Materials planning &/or purchasing related experience in a growth oriented manufacturing environment is a plus.Skills needed to effectively perform the duties of this position include: Excellent verbal and written communication, attention to detail, excellent computer skills and the ability to cope with multi-tasking. Ability to work under tight timelines and adapt to change.Working knowledge & Understanding of standard MRP techniques, principles and concepts is helpful.
