Vertex's product pipeline is focused on viral diseases, inflammation, autoimmune diseases, cancer, pain and bacterial infection. Position Overview: The Manager/Associate Directory of Data Center Operations is responsible for overall day-to-day center operations and the achievement of systems availability and service objectives. S/he will define and oversee plans and controls, and related functions, tasks and staff. Researches technical alternatives and develops concept alternatives for computer operations technologies. Directs and ensures documentation of operations maintenance activities and the performance of system backups and data restoration as required and w/in regulated parameters. As a member of the management team individual will lead the delivery of operational metrics and provide leadership for system improvements gleaned from these metrics. You will also develop capacity forecasting tools and facilitate the understanding of the business objectives by employees within the department. Additionally, you will mentor and coach staff by identifying individual strengths and areas for development and implementing plans to ensure their continual growth. Key Responsibilities: -Identify, interpret and evaluate customer requirements, and define scope of work. -Control computer operations and related functions to maintain availability targets through proper change control procedures. -Supervises the scheduling of computer operations production work and maintain transparency via proper demand planning techniques. -Oversees and control technical facilities management and maintenance. -Research technical alternatives, analyze technical operations, and develop concept alternatives for computer operations technologies to drive efficiencies and support strategy. -Define, apply and manage operations performance standards (ex: daily, weekly, monthly checklists) to ensure the integrity of technology infrastructure and consistency of technology architecture for new applications. -Develop test plans and procedures, schedule and perform testing and documents, interprets and reports test results. -Perform functional verifications and system audits, analyze system performance to baseline and generate appropriate reports. -Maintain equipment and service Monitor functions and related alerting capability to achieve 7*24 service targets. -Develop maintenance and upgrade plans and make recommendations for system optimization/process improvement. -Directs and ensures documentation of maintenance activities and the performance of system backups and restoration of data as required in-line with a regulated environment. -Communicate changes in operations procedures and capabilities. -IT Service Management – design and implement ITSM frameworks that integrate seamlessly into existing management and ticketing applications via ITIL best practice. -Ensure budget targets are hit. Minimal Requirements: -Master's or Bachelor's degree in computer science or a scientific or business field. -10+ years minimum technical management experience in an Operational role, managing capital and operating expense budgets, supporting business enterprise applications in a UNIX/LINUX/Windows/OSX enterprise environment. -Ideally candidate should have experience with staff size of 10+ in a geographically distributed model. -Solid storage experience with both block and file based systems (San/Nas). Disk-to-Disk backup experience highly desirable. -Experience managing multiple data centers and developing the strategies used to maintain a highly available operational environment in a 7*24 environment. -Experience managing a high performance computing function in support of discovery/research functions. -A broad based knowledge on establishing and maintaining a centralized systems support infrastructure, plus experience working in large scale transaction processing environment. -Data center operations experience that includes capacity planning and forecasting, disaster recovery and business continuity is key. -An ability to solve problems and move quickly in a fast-paced environment that can switch gears quickly is required. -Excellent oral and written communications. Ability to effectively present to senior management. -Strong analytical, planning, project management and problem solving abilities. -The ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects while maintaining operational excellence. -Aptitude for learning new technology quickly. -Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of computer systems design, architecture, and integration of system hardware, software and networks. -Ability to establish effective collaborative working relationships with multiple support groups across the company -Research and / or Pharmaceutical experience a plus.
