Associate Web Application Developer

The DoD Center for Deployment Health Research, a program of the Henry M. Jackson Foundation, is seeking an Associate Web Application Developer.  This is a challenging opportunity with an exciting research program focused on deployment health epidemiology.  Responsible for website and server maintenance for large prospective cohort studies of military personnel. Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors.  Exercises judgement within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Work in a support role on website design to include (i.e. format, layout, links, artwork); maintenance of the website (i.e. page updates, ensures that server is functioning properly); ensures that the website meets current security requirements; and creates electronic surveys. Analyze requirements for, assist in development and deployment of study team intranet sites. Participant in design discussions and decisions; debug and fix code. Prepares email for mass distribution to study participants. Includes cleaning and formatting the email addresses, checking for incomplete email addresses, and organizing the distribution of emails on one specific day. Documenting systems and procedures.


Experience Requirements:  1+ year(s) of (X)HTML/CSS design and implementation (Javascript a plus); 1+ year(s) of PHP development, plus desire to expand PHP knowledge and web standards; 1+ year(s) of RDBMS usage; good communication skills.  Experience with CakePHP, understanding of basic web Model-View-Controller design pattern (or core education in design patterns, even if lacking specific MVC knowledge), experience with MySQL, LAMP administration skills, and photoshop skills are preferred but not required.

 

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in computer science.  1 to 2 years programming experience.
