Position Summary:
The BRF Manager is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of Cephalon’s animal care facility and the activities of the technical staff. He/she is responsible for all activities in the BRF, efficiently supporting investigators with the planning and implementation of their in-life animal studies and administering the laboratory animal program in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The BRF Manager will be the key in-house resource for all matters relating to animal usage.
He/she will meet the standards for AAALAC International accreditation and be experienced and proficient in laboratory animal sciences technologies for the care and use of laboratory animals. He/she provides expert technical assistance to investigators on animal research procedures in rats, mice and immunodeficient mice and also has experience in conducting in vivo studies in rodents.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in directing the BRF staff together with a proactive, professional and mature style of interaction with the research staff, the chair of Cephalon’s IACUC, the Attending Veterinarian, facilities support staff, and senior management are critical.
The BRF Manager is primarily responsible for:Identifying, notifying and working with the Attending Veterinarian on veterinary issues including implementation and reporting of sentinel programs, provision of accurate clinical observations, managing disease outbreaks, conducting animal surgery, and identifying animal sourcing.Assisting in developing and implementing procedures related to the acquisition, maintenance, quarantine and disposition of research animalsContinually improving animal welfare by complying with IACUC guidelines and applicable federal, state and local regulations.Ensuring regulatory requirements are understood and followed
Qualifications:
Degree in laboratory animal science, biological or related science with a minimum of 5 years of management and supervisory experience and certification by AALAS as a Laboratory Animal Technologist. Knowledge and experience with USDA regulations, PHS animal welfare guidelines, AAALAC International, and applicable International guidelines on the care and use of laboratory animals. Participation in the Institute of Laboratory Animal Management programs sponsored by AALAS.
