Sales/Retail/Business Development Reference Code: 705000 Category Insights Manager - Wal-Mart, OTC - (Job Number: 0805826) DescriptionJohnson & Johnson Sales and Logistics Company, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is currently recruiting for a Category Insights Manager on the Wal-Mart team to support the OTC product group located in Rogers, AR. The Category Insights Manager - Wal-Mart, OTC supports the field sales team and customer retailers by providing category and shopper insights that elevate partnerships and which seek to increase sales throughout J&J Consumer Group. The CIM is responsible for analyzing and translating consumer and category data into actionable strategies and tactics. The CIM is assigned to a specific Brand or category and provides support in making better decisions about product assortment, pricing, and merchandising. The CIM works closely with the Market Research & Development to design, execute, and interpret results from customer studies in the field to understand buying behavior and consumer preferences. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Serves as shopper and category research expert and works with Marketing Research & Development to align on prioritized research plan; Responsible for updating existing consumer research and fielding new research to support the development of customer Platforms and sales strategies; Defines merchandising best practices through utilization of consumer and category insights; Utilizes consumer insights to define pricing/promotional activities as well as shelf tests; Serves as liaison expert to the field sales force on joint research projects with Market Research & Development for trade category; Ensures that research learnings are broadly shared throughout the organization; Serves as subject matter expert to Customer Team and Customer relative to the category insights process and method and understanding of custom research; Uses research and category insights to identify areas of opportunity and trends to maximize brand and category sales volume. Also responsible for: Development, understanding, sourcing, and synthesis of data sets to generate category insights that lead to actionable recommendations with customers; Assesses best method to gather needed insights to meet the needs of field sales and customer retailers; Works with vendors to execute solid research to gather Shopper Insights that support established category business plans; Presents and shares shopper insights at the customer and internally to sales and marketing to maximize the value spend in designated category; Establishing merchandising guidelines, ensuring alignment internally and with rest of sales organization when appropriate to provide field sales with shelf guidelines that will lead to greater retail shelf presence; Filtering through existing research library to provide insights and factual support for a variety of requests from the field and retail partners to support partnership and business goals; Overseeing the creation and maintenance of the merchandising tools (i.e. priority rankings, shelf flow) that support a strong presence for the Op-Co at retail; Conducting store visits to assess current merchandising status, including taking photographs to develop ways to improve presence at retail to provide continued leadership in product/brand area; Gaining alignment between internal and external business partners to support goal achievement. A minimum of a 4-yr degree is required. A minimum of 6 years prior experience in Consumer Packaged Goods sales environment required, including prior experience in direct customer sales, business analytics, or customer or category marketing. At least 3 years of MRD or Shopper Insights experience is preferred. Wal-Mart experience is preferred. Must be able to positively influence decision-makers up and down one or more levels, with and without authority, to achieve business objectives and ensure a fully-aligned customer/company business plan; Recognized as a leader by customers, team members and internal business partners. Demonstrates effective communication and negotiation skills to solve problems, gain agreement with and inform others, while targeting long-term objectives. Uses facts and data analysis to identify good options and make/implement good decisions. Ability to create fact-based presentations to translate sales objectives into customer strategy and business plans around distribution, merchandising, promotion and planogram placement. Ability to devise and deliver persuasive presentations, based on data-driven insights and facts, to gain support for business strategies or initiatives, both with customers and internal business partners. Demonstrates and effectively applies consumer industry and cross-category knowledge & expertise. Serves as liaison between the customer, team counterparts and internal support team members to foster a culture of growth and collaboration. Represents the face of the company to the trade and the voice of customer to the company. Penetrates the appropriate customer and internal functions to achieve maximum results on sales objectives. Acts with urgency to make the most of opportunities, address customer needs and accomplish goals and objectives including the launch of new items with excellence on speed to market and store penetration with maximum shelf presence for the opportunity. Ability to complete projects and follow processes to manage results including volume achievement. Ability to plan tactics to support broader company and brand objectives. Ability to manage funds and resources for the greatest return on investment for the company. Able to identify and assess risk and prioritize competing demands for resources of time and money and apply resources to maximize profitable sales. Ability to accurately forecast and predict business results.
