Chemical Buyer

LEVLAD manufactures and distributes personal care products including shampoos, conditioners, lotions and masques.  LEVLAD’s three primary segments sell 1) it’s own brand, Nature’s Gate, 2) to it’s sister company, Arbonne International, and 3) to other health and beauty companies on a private label basis.

 

LEVLAD’s product development philosophy derives from a natural approach to hair and skin care.  This was first reflected in the original shampoos and conditioners formulated over 25 years ago from rainwater collected in Venice, California.  Since then, LEVLAD’s product development procedures have been driven by the philosophy of collecting vitamins, extracts and botanicals from nature in order to yield effective, premium-quality body and hair care solutions.

 

Due to the exciting growth and changes at Levlad, we are currently looking for a Chemicals Buyer to add to our team.

 

Job Description:

The Chemicals Buyer is responsible for ensuring all planned and procured materials, goods and services relating to all chemicals are in stock and arrive as scheduled in support of the planned business needs and in support of meeting customer service levels.

 

This person will:

· assist in the creation, implementation and compliance of appropriate policies and procedures to ensure operations efficiency, while supporting profitable growth and managing costs. 

· carry out other day-to-day supplier related procurement activities.

· support the successful, efficient and timely centralizing of sourcing and company-wide procurement of forecasted inventory materials and services by:

o  assisting in the selection of qualified suppliers

o  assisting in the negotiation of Purchase Agreements, and;

o  issuing purchase orders in a timely manner, working closely with multiple departments (Planning, Customer Service, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations, Product Development etc.). 

 



Qualifications:

 

Education:

· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.  APICS or CSMCP certification or coursework a plus.  A Masters in Business Administration or related degree is a plus

Work Experience:

· Working knowledge of chemicals & chemical suppliers commonly used in health & beauty products

· Minimum of 5 years work experience in procurement/planning in a medium to large consumer goods company

· Manufacturing experience and/or a working knowledge of a manufacturing environment, its processes and procedures

· Computer and computer training experience, including experience with a variety of computer systems, spreadsheet and database programs, and ERP systems. 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Negotiation skills with suppliers

· Ability to manage multiple procurement requests simultaneously

· Selection, qualification, negotiation and supplier management skills a plus

· Proven analytical ability and attention to detail

· Excellent spreadsheet skills a must

· Excellent oral and written communications and people skills

· Proven customer service skills

· Technical expertise in chemicals and manufacturing processes

· Strong project management skills

· Successful track record of BOM cost savings and process improvements within Purchasing

· Demand planning/forecasting of sales, production, and actual a plus.

· Experience in the management of supplier inventories and inventory reconciliations

· Experience with international suppliers
