Chemistry Research Assistant

Gevo, Inc. is a high energy, team-oriented organization that is pioneering the advanced biofuels industry.  We are looking for a Chemistry Research Associate, based in Englewood, Colorado.  This role is responsible for supporting exploratory organic chemistry projects for the conversion of small molecules into commodity chemicals and polymers.  The research assistant will perform chemical reactions in the laboratory to produce new chemicals and materials for further testing.

Requirements include:

·       Masters degree in synthetic or polymer chemistry;

·       Three - four years of knowledge and operation/analysis of: (graduate work and/or work experience)

o    High pressure, high temperature reactions

o    Analysis organic compounds using GC and LC

o    Basic lab equipment

o    Lab Safety

·       Excellent written and verbal communications skills

·       Experience preparing and handling heterogeneous catalysts preferred

·       Prefer applicants with experience with large-scale reactions in an industrial setting.

 

Responsibilities include:

·         Responsible for running high pressure and temperature chemical reactions successfully and safely.  Experience with high pressure batch reactors and tubular flow reactors is absolutely required for this position.

·         Responsible for preparing and testing primarily heterogeneous catalysts. 

·         Responsible for operating and maintaining basic laboratory equipment such as vacuum pumps, compressed gas handling equipment, furnaces, analytical balances.

·         Responsible for identifying and quantifying products

·         Responsible for reporting scientific results in clear verbal and written communications.
