Newborn Screening Jamaica Plain
Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Clinical Data Specialist Ii coordinates the Endocrine Follow-Up Program, both short term and long term, for hypothyroidism and congenital adrenal hyperplasia. The Clinical Data Specialist provides epidemiological support for studies involving data review of newborn screening database and endocrine follow-up database. In addition, the Clinical Data Specialist assists the Project Manager with decision-making and communication of our-of-range laboratory results.
REQUIRED FUNCTIONS
Provides routine telephone contact, to physician of record, for suspected endocrine disorders.
Tracks requests for repeat specimens of suspected endocrine disorders.
Contacts physician of record and/or endocrinologist to obtain follow-up information.
Works with systems analysts further develop medical information and tracking systems.
Collects and maintains patient test data for long-term follow-up databases.
Assists follow-up supervisor in performing statistical analyses and reports as necessary.
Consults with professional staff to plan projected studies.
Assists in the preparation of text and charts for presentations/publications.
Work on operational and scientific projects as requested.
Perform other duties as required

About Newborn Screening:
Newborn Screening is a division of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and is located in Jamaica Plain. We are a half block from the Forest Hills MBTA stop. The Newborn Screening Program tests blood samples from all newborns in the state of Massachusetts and other New England states to determine the presence of critical disorders. The purpose of the testing is to identify babies who require medical intervention, thereby reducing mental retardation, morbidity and death.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Bachelor?s Degree in a relevant science curriculum, or equivalent.
Experience using computer databases and statistical software.
Ability to communicate effectively and to work cooperatively with staff at all levels of the organization, as well as with other public and health care professionals.
