Clinical Development Engineer (254079-609)

Primary Function of Position:





The Clinical Development Engineer is a core position at Intuitive Surgical having responsibility for the development of highly effective clinical applications and accompanying products for our surgical robotic system platforms, while improving clinical outcome for patients.








Roles and Responsibilities:





This position has responsibility and authority for:


Clinical Applications


· Develop and apply in-depth knowledge of the da Vinci® Surgical System and become the clinical leader in the operating room environment


· Take the lead on developing new clinical applications with minimal resources:


· Work with key surgical teams


· Conduct experimental clinical labs with animate and inanimate models


· Develop clinical training & marketing material, such as:


· Comprehensive procedure guides


· Instructional surgical videos


· Clinical Training Pathways per surgical procedure


· da Vinci® System Value Proposition per surgical procedure


· Support clinical IDE studies


· Conduct procedure and product specific “Focus Group” meetings with key customers at scientific conferences





Product Development


· Manage clinical evaluation of new or enhanced products at key customer sites


· Work with clinically oriented product development engineers to design highly effective new products, while reducing surgical invasiveness to a minimum


· Develop and apply in-depth knowledge of the EndoWrist® Instrumentation


· Identify potential product enhancements & new ideas by applying an analytical approach to understanding the clinical needs of surgeons


· Perform pre-clinical validations and design iteration assessments of products


· Assist with creation of product related documentation, such as:


· 510K clearance documentation


· Definition of product requirements & functional specifications


· “Instructions for Use” manuals


· Develop clinical test protocols for product evaluations


· “First Human Use” documentation





Other


· Keeps the organization’s vision and values at the forefront of decision making and action


· Performs other duties as required to support the company's overall strategy and goals

 

Skill/Job Requirements:








In order to adequately perform the responsibilities of this position the individual must have:


· M.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or similar.


· Minimum of 4 years of experience in medical device industry required


· Experience working with surgeons in an operating room environment


· Fluent in surgical terminology and sound knowledge of anatomy/surgery


· Excellent troubleshooting skills in electronics and vision/video equipment


· Excellent mechanical design and assembly skills


· Excellent teamwork skills with proven ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines to insure product success and ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.


· Experience developing laparoscopic/endoscopic surgical procedures or products


· Self-starter needing minimal supervision


· Self confident and able to react quickly under pressure


· Knowledge of video capturing/editing a plus


· Ability to travel up to 60%, international and domestic
