Competitive Intelligence Manager:My client, a mid-size pharmaceutical company based in a northern suburb of Chicago, is a company dedicated to serving its patients by providing innovating products that improve their lives with better healthcare.  They are committed to their patients, their employees and their community.  They have an innovative, entrepreneurial spirit, as well a culture that is performance focused. The company has reached a point where they have a need for a separate Competitive Intelligence Department.  I'm currently looking for a Competitive Intelligence Manager for the organization that will join the Sr. Manager and serve as the representative of this new function and group and the organization.  This is a critical role as it is high visibility and very important the department's credibility is established with the organization from the get-go.   This is not a library type function.  This group is focused on key topics of information, focus areas for brands/therapeutic areas, performing analysis, building intelligence from the information, and making recommendations.  TITLE:  Manager, Business Intelligence (CI) REPORTS TO: Senior Manager SALARY RANGE:Up to $115,000 - $125,000 base, plus 15% target bonus, plus long-term incentive bonus! RELO: Full relo available  OBJECTIVES:  The goal of the Business Intelligence (Competitive Intelligence) function this company is to transform pharmaceutical market information into issues, opportunities, and recommendations that are utilizable by a range of stakeholders.  The Manager position is a key role within the Commercial organization and will fulfill the following objectives: Integrate therapeutic area specific market information collected via multiple sources from throughout the organization into viable market intelligence Lead cross functional therapeutic area teams through the analysis of key market events yielding new interpretations, strategy, and proposed tactics to prepare for anticipated market dynamics that impact the company's business interests Partner with Commercial Planning Teams, Sales and Marketing Analytics, New Product Planning, Business Development, Medical and Scientific Affairs, Global Research & Development, and other internal teams to increasingly drive competitive insights into commercial strategies and decision making ACCOUNTABILITIES:  Effectively plan and design appropriate intelligence programs to address therapeutic area and brand specific issues Apply and execute high quality analysis and recommendations to therapeutic area and brand processes including: commercial planning, forecasting, pre-launch and launch planning process, pricing strategy and other strategic commercial development decisions Develop and refine the market information and intelligence needs of all stakeholders including the therapeutic area and brand teams and proactively drive analysis and to ensure early awareness of key market dynamics Deliver guidance, recommendations and market intelligence insights to inform commercial decisions Drive and implement excellent communication/presentation/facilitation skills to build relationships both within the brand/franchise cross-functional team Execute efficient vendor management practices employing company's Business Operating Procedures to ensure legal and compliance guideline adherence for intelligence gathering to protect business interests and confidentiality Continuously strive to improve knowledge on disease area, pharmaceutical environment, regulatory and environmental changes and internal processes to improve quality of recommendations over time Develop risk/opportunity analyses based on understanding of business drivers and implications at various stages of the brand lifecycleEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:   Required: Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred Eight or more years of experience in the healthcare industry, preferably in marketing, market research, medical affairs, or consulting capacity with some prior competitive intelligence experience preferred (will consider other functional areas of experience in pharma for the right candidate, but strongly prefer candidates with some prior CI experience)  Strong understanding of the intelligence cycle, especially collection, assessment, and management of primary data Strong analytical skills, plus knowledge of investigational research tools via Internet, trade journals and industry experts Analytical and strategic thinking. Creative in approach to identifying the big picture from scattered pieces of information; writing, presentation, and project management skills Ability to work in cross-functional teams Proven ability to interact with senior level executives in delivering effective presentations and providing high-level information to influence major decisions Collaborative personality Ability to present to all levels; ability to defend your recommendations...with tact Risk taker (look at info, build it into some type of intelligence and stand behind what is not necessarily there when appropriate) Creativity (see stories and trends that aren't obvious; reading between the lines; connecting the dots) Ability to look at the market and see new information Diabetes, Anti-depression, hypertension, insomnia and GI therapeutic areas are all a plus Scientific training helpful  TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to drive to or fly to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips.
