Degree and Area of Specialization:

BA/BS in business, math, science or related field; Master's preferred.

 

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

4-5 years experience in research and grant activities as it relates to program and compliance requirements of major funding agencies (Federal, State and Private/Industry) as well as the university is preferred. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms with faculty, researchers and staff at all levels.

 

Principal duties:

The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) is a $25 million dollar, multi-institutional, research program that will conduct fundamental, genomics-based research to design the microbial and plant systems needed to realize the potential of biofuels. The vision of the GLBRC is to become a worldwide center of excellence for research and development of celluosic ethanol and other bioenergy products. A new facility will be constructed to house this research program and the number of staff and funding support is expected to increase with this endeavor.

 

The GLBRC, which is divided into 6 Thrusts, encompassing 50+ Projects, is housed at the University of Wisconsin with collaborators at Michigan State University along with other academic, private sector and national laboratories. This position serves as the Compliance Officer ensuring that the GLBRC is in full compliance with the cooperative agreement, develops sub-award documents to ensure that roles, responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities of the collaborators are defined, hold collaborating institutions responsible for assigned work, and ensures compliance with the Conflict of Interest Management Plan (CMP) and Intellectual Property (IP) and other parts of the cooperative agreement. Responsibilities include:

 Develop a performance monitoring system to track subcontractor activities;Track progress cost, schedule and progress on milestones across GLBRC;Monitor, collect and aid review of institutional and individual Conflict of Interest (COI) documents;Assist in preparing reports for DOE Chicago Office.

 

 

Additional responsibilities:

 

Use independent judgment and apply a comprehensive understanding of research regulations to oversee current and future functional design and implementation of business processes for research compliance: Analyze, research, build consensus around, and implement business processes (e.g. for tracking research compliance);Work directly with faculty and research staff to build consensus around best practices;Analyze data tracking needs and create standard reporting formats;Assist in the development and maintenance of research compliance databases;Apply an understanding of research practice, research compliance, and ethics to compose clear, precise, and detailed letters, memos, reports, and training materials;Use professional interpersonal and communication skills effectively to gain understanding and resolve problems.

 

Develop educational resources and training materials for investigators:Coordinate compliance seminars and workshops;Develop guidance documents for investigators, researchers and staff;Document research compliance procedures;Answer questions and problem solve for researchers, investigators and staff.
