Data Analyst - Educational Research - SAS
The College Board, a national educational organization, has an opportunity for a Data Analyst II who will join our New York City-based Research Data Services team and who will conduct analyses on student data, perform data aggregations, and perform fulfillment functions for ad hoc internal and external data and analysis requests. This position will take the lead in developing automated procedures that improve efficiency of these efforts including the design and implementation of QC efforts.
The Research Data Services team supports internal and external needs for student-related information, statistics, data, and reports. All of the information we provide ultimately helpsconsumers of our data such as schools, school districts and state agencies to make important education-related decisions that help connect students to college success.
It is expected that this Data Analyst will undertake research and analysis projects as a primary or secondary investigator. Depending on qualifications and experience, this position will oversee large-scale data aggregation and analysis projects, and will mentor other analysts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIESAssume primary responsibility in the fulfillment of large-scale, strategically important data and analysis projects representing collaborations with state departments of education and other organizations.Design and implement QC procedures on all analyses and data aggregations.Work with large databases involving Advanced Placement (AP), PSAT/NMSQT, and SAT data, school to district and state mappings.Write ad hoc queries and generate reports representing a variety of formats.Develop more efficient, creative procedures in the fulfillment of these analyses that may include developing stored procedures/programs and/or database solutions.Maintain a procedure for an efficient and thorough documentation of how the analyses and data aggregations were completed and reports were generated. Undertake other large analysis and data aggregation projects, as assigned, with minimal supervision.Provide programming support and guidance to Research and Analysis colleagues.Produce technical reports and memorandum describing algorithms, procedures, data conventions, and/or results.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, math, statistics, or quantitative social science is preferred plus 2 or 3 years of demonstrated proficiency with SAS (including data step and macro programming) or a general-purpose programming language (such as C, C++, C#, Fortran, Java, Pascal, Perl, or Python) are required. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience working with large projects involving data. Participation in projects involving publication of a variety of statistical summary reports is desired.
Related Skills & Other Requirements:Knowledge of statisticsResearch skills and expertise in methodology Experience related to research, education, and/or public policy highly desirable.Experience with SPSS and SQL is a plus.Ability to translate general inquiries into specific research and analysis questions & tasks.Outstanding organizational, attention to detail & time management skills.Experience with Microsoft Office programs with an emphasis on MS Word and Excel.Superior oral and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skillsAbility to function in a team-oriented unitAbility to manage a variety of ongoing projects simultaneously.
