Database Maintenance Specialist

The Database Maintenance Specialist is responsible for loading and maintaining all items in the Master Item File (MIF) database for assigned vendors. This will include research and ad hoc reporting for assigned divisions, other departments, and vendors. Specialist will load new items, clarify or modify existing items, and update pricing as requested by Buyers, Consumer Health, and Contract departments. The specialist is responsible for building relationships and keeping lines of communication open with assigned vendors to facilitate all of these processes.
II. Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:Load new items in MIF and verify that all doc is accurate and complete and that it corresponds with the packaging/package insertResearch and obtain all set up documentation for new contract requestsMaintain all current items in MIF and discontinue items as necessarySetup new vendors in MIFEnsure accuracy of critical data such as Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) schedules, hazmat, and refrigeration codesMaintain items on private label, repack, and generic drug programsIdentify problem areas and suggest/initiate process improvementsSupport Cardinal Customer Service and divisional initiatives:Adjust divisional activity status on itemsMaintain current item data in MIF to ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracyAttach special programs, exclusion codes, and substitutions so customers can access appropriate itemsResearch and resolve discrepancies between MIF and other systems/departments or third partiesSet up new items in MIF within 24-48 hours from receipt of request. 90% or more of new item setups must be completely error-free in all fields.Complete all item maintenance requests accurately in MIF within 24-48 hours of receiptSupport Cardinal’s Strategic Pricing and Buying initiatives:Ensure pricing documentation is valid and contains all necessary informationResearch items, National Drug Code (NDC) matches, and item substitutionsComplete pricing with 99% accuracy rate and within required timelinesComplete special projects as assigned by management:Perform in-depth research for customers, compliance, and auditors, using historical information, Access queries, Internet, and vendor contactWrite and/or test scripts to ensure system rules are working as they shouldTest enhancements to MIF database to ensure smooth implementation of the changesWork with Corporate Compliance to ensure item coding reflects the latest state and federal regulationMaintain consistency of data amongst assigned vendors
Education or Equivalent:Prefer a four year degree1-2 years business experiencePrevious pharmaceutical experience/knowledge helpful
Knowledge/Skills Requirements:Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectivelyAbility to interact professionally at all levels and across diverse culturesStrong desktop software skills desirable (Word, Access, Excel, Outlook)Ability to be persistent and follow through with somewhat complex research issues Ability to adapt as the environment/organization necessitates
