This startup unit is seeking entrepreneurial leaders and top scientists and technicians at all levels to build a development organization dedicated to delivering therapies that improve the lives of patients.Functions: Will manage all BPA activities of the Business Unit on a global basis, with overall responsibility in helping setting targets, analyzing performance, proposing corrective actions, preventing unforeseen hurdles and helping to actively to manage risk-benefit of key initiatives. Supporting and challenging business functions in an active, transparent and constructive way, he or she will help improve overall value generation in the short and long-term. The person will play a key role in the achievement of overall BxU targets, optimizing business plans, risk management and trade-offs between short- and long-term growth. Will support key customers and report to the CFO. Representing BxU within the larger Novartis organization, the person will have outstanding leadership skills and superb financial and business- related expertise. Specifically, the person will: manage all financial planning activities for BxU globally, including budget, strategic plan financials, current estimates and outlook, monthly business reviews, and risks and opportunities; participate in the development of business strategies and operational plans, and protection of asset values via optimized business plans; support management with financial analysis to optimize all elements of the business; provide quantitative support for acquisitions and divestitures and licensing deals perform deviation analysis, managing processes to exceed financial targets, while proactively identifying risks and communicating appropriately to senior management, handling profit protection programs when required; analyze cost and control, measuring efficiency and identifying improvement opportunities in the business; actively lead projects to realize savings and efficiency improvements; evaluate and recommend major capital appropriation requests, coordinating capital spending; allocate resources and make recommendations for global forecasting and trend analyses; manage financial analysis for all regions and business units; provide guidance on optimization of potential and downside risks; Knowledge and understanding of financial and development systems (SAP, SUCCEED, FRS, Budget/LE/Month End) expertise to ensure success in operational analyses/execution, a huge plus; familiarity with FRA/SOX processes to give balanced fiduciary guidanceThe person will review all relevant business data, articulating a clear understanding of risks and business opportunities. Externally, the person will remain abreast of markets, customers and competitors, including new technologies and new opportunities. Understanding competitor strengths, weaknesses and product lines, he or she will have a feel for customers, optimizing business plans and return on investment. Taking initiative, embracing change and assuming calculated risks, the person will innovate business processes, benchmarking and embrace continued learning. The person will leverage the latest IT technology and analytical approaches while simplifying processes to maximize efficiency and value added activities at all levels of the organization.QualificationsQualifications: Should have a BS,MBA/CPA the person will have at least 10 years financial management experience in a major pharmaceutical company, able to function effectively in a global setting. A manger with excellent informal leadership skills, he or she will be able to influence peers in business line functions, while motivating a team of direct reports or functional reports. As significant buildup of this new division will be required, the ability to succeed in a start-up environment is crucial. Personal Profile: A fast learner with a solid business understanding, the person will be able to challenge conventional thinking, quickly separating essential from unessential issues. Skilled in organizing and prioritizing, the person will have a track record of delivering results. A superb manager, he or she will inspire competence through professionalism and networking with a positive attitude. The person should be ready to roll-up sleeves and assume ad-hoc responsibility as needed in an entrepreneurial setting.
