I am currently looking for a Director Market Research (CI and Managed Care) for a new role. The company has not had an established Competitive Intelligence function before, therefore this person will be responsible for coming in and laying the ground work for a Competitive Intelligence function for the organization, establishing best practices, etc. A solid background in CI is critical for this position, as well as experience in Market Research. If you have experience in building a Competitive Intelligence Department, that's a huge plus! Managed Care experience is not required, but definitely a plus. TITLE: Director, Market Research (Competitive Intelligence and Managed Care) SALARY RANGE: Up to $175,000 base (may be a little flexible for the right candidate), plus bonus and stock options RELO: Full relo available RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director, Market Research, is responsible for creating a Competitive Intelligence function and directing and implementing all Managed Care market research across the pre-launch and in-line brands. The Director actively collaborates with the brand market researchers to support pre-launch and in-line brand planning strategic and tactical efforts by providing objective, in-depth information about current and future market and competitive and managed care forces. The Director will identify and answer critical competitive and managed care business questions by analyzing and synthesizing the information to provide key insights and findings to the organization. Through the implementation of primary and secondary competitive intelligence and managed care market research, the Director ensures that marketing and business decision-making is supported by timely, accurate and cost-effective data and analysis. The Director also maintains a vigilant watch over the health of the brands to alert brand management and corporate executives of emerging opportunities and threats. His/her expertise is respected and sought by all levels of management throughout the organization, and he/she is a participant in all discussions on assigned brand and therapeutic market strategy development. 1. Acts as a Competitive Intelligence and Managed Care Market Research specialist aligned with multiple departments, teams and senior management 2. Leads the development of pre-defined standards to ensure legal and ethical approaches to CI, protecting business interests and confidentiality 3. Leads the development of CI and Managed Care market research initiatives for inclusion into the annual market research plan and budget for assigned brands. 4. Collaborates with Marketing and Managed Care departments to leverage key insights and maintain competitive edge 5. Proactively plans Managed Care and CI opportunity and risk, SWOT, war gaming and other strategic initiatives at various stages of the product life-cycle 6. Maintains a comprehensive and current understanding of relevant therapeutic markets, ensuring that this understanding is effectively utilized to deliver prognostic insights to brand management and senior executives throughout the organization. 7. Leads market research department interactions across the pre-launch and in-line brand teams to ensure not only that needed market research data and intelligence is available for decision-making, but that it is fully understood and utilized as well. 8. Manages assigned future staff to optimize current performance and ensure development of needed skills and capabilities for the future. 9. Teams with other members of the market research department related to specific business issues or cross-product initiatives, providing leadership on these projects as needed. REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelors degree required. Advanced degree in business or science is strongly preferred. Experience: The Director will have at least 10 years of pharmaceutical industry work experience, including 8+ years working in business intelligence, market analysis or management consulting role in a healthcare related industry. Experience in pharmaceutical product management or other marketing function is desirable, but not necessary. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The Director, Market Research, must be fluent in the use of a wide range of secondary data sources including, but not limited to: standard sales, prescription, medical, and promotional audits, as well as general business and pharmaceutical industry sources of intelligence. He/she must also be well versed and experienced in the design and conduct of a broad array of primary market research approaches; both quantitative and qualitative; of all degrees of sophistication. He/she must have direct supervisory experience as well as a history of success working with cross-functional teams. In addition, the Director is expected to possess a thorough grasp of his/her assigned therapeutic areas (medical practice, products, competitors and market dynamics) as well as a broad understanding of US healthcare and pharmaceutical industry issues and trends, which he/she routinely integrates into strategies for assigned brands. A highly developed ability to frame and communicate issues in strategic terms, excellent consultative skills and good business sense is required. A solid CI background is essential, and experience in establishing a CI function in a pharma organization is a strong plus. Collaborative personality and style required as you will be collaborating with Market Research, brand teams, Brand Heads, etc. to understand issues to address strategically and tactically. Ability to manage vendors required as you will be working closely with vendors for analytical support in this role. Prior people management skills strongly preferred as well.
