The candidate will have experience from a pharmaceutical/biotech company, as well from an entrepreneurial environment and have the ability to demonstrate a successful track record in structuring, negotiating and completing business development in-licensing evaluations, license agreements and research contracts. The candidate will work with the Discovery Management team to support corporate strategy development and implementation and work closely with Research, Development and Commercial to identify strategic opportunities to help build the company’s pipeline and expand its technology capabilities. Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the CSO, successful candidates will:
· Identify, analyze and recommend strategic in licensing ) to support the strategic direction of discovery research and non-clinical development
· Identify and prioritize early stage technology, compound and preclinical R&D collaboration opportunities based on technical merits, medical need, and market potential
· Coordinate and manage research activities and information gathering to support Cubist’s due diligence efforts on early stage in licensing programs
· Prepare and present summaries, reports, and analysis to support licensing/collaboration decisions
· Lead deal negotiation, execution, and implementation of early stage in-licensing and R&D collaboration deals
· Articulate the Company’s capabilities and business objectives to prospective collaboration partners.
· Represent the Company in business-to-business discussions at conferences, one on one meetings and scientific forums.
· Make initial presentations, subsequent structuring of term sheets, oversight, and management of negotiations and closing strategies for early stage in-licensing and R&D collaboration deals
· Manage contractual aspects of investigator initiated and other sponsored research collaborations
· Manage the company’s research/early stage pipeline IP portfolio.Qualifications
A. Education/Certification M.B.A. with a baccalaureate in a scientific discipline is ideal
B. Experience· A minimum of 5 years of related experience in pharmaceutical or biotech/life sciences, including:
· Experience in negotiating early stage program/compound in-licensing, IP in-licensing, and early stage R&D strategic alliances/research collaborations
· Ability to work on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various scientific, technical and business factors as well as the application of broad-based experience.
· Excellent presentation capabilities to diverse audiences including external KOLs, Scientific Advisory Boards, business leaders/board members, and technical/scientific academic research staff.
· A full understanding of drug discovery and development process
· Experience working on a multi-disciplinary project team in a leadership capacity
· Scientific background in infectious diseases a plus.
