DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND VENTURE MANAGEMENTLloyd Medical Consultants is conducting a search for a growing pharmaceutical company with a sizeable portfolio of core assets in clinical and pre-clinical programs within a variety of therapeutic areas. Our client is seeking to hire a Director of Business Development and Venture Management. The candidate hired for this role will have primary responsibility of Asset Optimization through Spin-Outs, Out-Licensing and Collaboration. The incumbent will have a scientific degree (Bachelors, Masters and/or Ph.D.) and 10+ years experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry and/or venture capital/investment banking with business development and operational experience. In addition to a scientific degree, an MBA is highly desired. He/She will be an articulate, goal-directed person with creative negotiating strategies, significant deal experience and an established network of contacts. Responsibilities:Lead Asset Optimization initiative. Identify and pursue avenues that optimize value on strategic and/or economic parameters. Avenues include:   Out-license/divestiture   Near term quid exchange for strategic asset   Development/commercial collaboration/option   Foundation for new company spinout   Out-source development risk via risk sharing modelInterface with active project teams at discontinuation of current core projects. Generate/strengthen value proposition for individual assets where possible. Develop robust data package / data room. Execute diligence and transaction. Make select investments to increase portfolio value by addressing key issues. Transition projects once transaction is executed.

Requirements:Scientific degree (Bachelors, Masters and/or Ph.D.) and 10+ years experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry and/or venture capital/investment banking with business development and operational experience. In addition to a scientific degree, an MBA is highly desired. Excellent leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Must be a proactive, hands-on and have a results-oriented ethic. Solid scientific understanding of the process of drug discovery and development process. Significant deal experience (deal sheet) and an established network of contacts. Ability to effectively negotiate with senior level executives to meet deliverables and close transactions. Analytical skills and tools to develop creative negotiating strategies, value deals and technologies and overall proposals in the context of corporate environment needs and objectives.
