Discovery Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Aptamer Discovery Group

Based in Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA, we are focused on discovering, developing, and commercializing aptamer therapeutics. Currently, Archemix and its licensees are evaluating five different aptamer product candidates in human clinical trials. We have numerous licensing partnerships with well established and scientifically respected biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. At Archemix, we are developing aptamers as an exciting new class of oligonucleotide-based therapeutics.

RESPONSIBILITIES: We presently have a critically important Discovery Scientist/ Sr. Scientist position available within our Aptamer Discovery Group. The role involves utilizing our in vitro selection technology (SELEX) to generate aptamers for our company’s internal and partnered therapeutic discovery programs. Working within interdisciplinary project teams, the candidate will characterize and optimize hit aptamers with the goal of generating leads for therapeutic programs. As we seek to continuously improve, the candidate will also be responsible for proposing and implementing methods to streamline and enhance our discovery processes.

REQUIREMENTS: We welcome motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with expertise in Nucleic Acid Biochemistry. Relevant experience specializing in the molecular basis of protein/protein and protein/nucleic acid interactions is ideal. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in industry or post-doctoral is preferred. Previous experience with in vitro selection technologies (e.g., SELEX, phage display, mRNA display) is preferred, but not required. Excellent communication skills are required. The ability to work in a fast-paced interdisciplinary environment and to partner collaboratively and effectively in teams on simultaneous multiple projects is critical.
