OVERVIEW: • The Material Handling Service Assistant II is responsible for performing a variety of activities related to storing, shipping, receiving, and/or mail distribution accurately to meet company standards of quality, customer service, safety, and productivity. This position may specialize in more than one area. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: • Performs all routine and non-routine activities in mail room (e.g.; prepares manifest for local delivery service, process bulk mailings and other large volume mailing, receives and sorts mail, pick and distribute internal mail, weighs and prepares outgoing mail, operates postal meter machine). • Performs a variety of duties in regards to moving and storing product with proper equipment and efficiently stacking and storing the product in the appropriate area (e.g.; receive gas cylinders from vendor and place in proper storage area or departmental drop-off point) following purchase order, pcard or internal requisition instructions. Ensure proper stock rotation. • Using internal system, perform inquiries and print internal customer requisitions. Efficiently pick internal requisitions, ensuring that the correct number and type of product is picked and delivered to the correct drop-off points throughout the facility. • Load and unload freight in a safe manner. Sign for inbound shipments. Report shortages, damages, and mis-shipments on appropriate forms and/or to buyer. Prepared logs for pcard, purchase orders, and Internet ordered freight receipts. Verify contents of material received under purchase orders. Receive purchase order receipts into internal computer system. • Unload, sign for, and accurately prepare logs for sample shipments. Report shortages, damages on appropriate form and/or to sample management staff. Deliver sample shipments to proper sample drop-off locations. • Assists with preparing document and dangerous goods shipments (e.g.; packaging, secure container for shipment, affixes appropriate label, and completes required documentation using shipping software). • Accurately maintains records in area of responsibility (e.g.; receiving, shipping, picking) and forwards to supervision as specified. • Operates any material handling equipment safely and efficiently as required. • Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area. Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse area. Comply with OSHA and MSDS standards. • Provides guidance to employees and internal customers with regards to related department/company guidelines, policies and SOPs. • Works under minimal supervision and semi-independently. • Recognizes unusual situations. Takes action if solution is within scope of ability or notifies supervisor/designee. • Must be able to perform physical duties common to material handling such as pushing, pulling, carrying and standing or walking for extended periods of time. • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on frequent basis. • Company sponsored DOT/IATA Certification required within 6 months of hire. • Overtime and weekend work as required. • Mandatory immunizations and screening as required. OTHER JOB DUTIES: • Charge forklift batteries and other equipment as needed. • Participate in physical inventories. • Performs other related duties as assigned. • Maintains well-documented records of work progress. • Carries out self-development efforts as directed. Experience: • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience. • Must be able to accurately read and record information. • Must possess basic math skills. • Working knowledge of personal computers preferred. • Familiarity with operating of material handling equipment is beneficial. • Communication skills, both oral and written, are essential.
