FIELD APPLICATION SCIENTIST

The Field Applications Scientist is the primary technical contact for Affymetrix customers and is responsible for all customer trainings, and for providing data analysis, logistical, and troubleshooting support in the field. This is a field-based position which is focused on supporting and servicing customers who operate in a clinical diagnostics environment. The primary goals of this position are to ensure maximum utilization of the Affymetrix Molecular Diagnostics System to drive revenues and sustain customer retention by providing a high level of support.

• Provide technical support to users and potential users of the Affymetrix Molecular Diagnostics System and related diagnostics-focused technologies through both remote and on-site customer interactions.
• Coordinating new installations, including on-site laboratory inspections, assay validations and customer trainings.
• On-going support responsibilities will require routine customer follow up, managing customer expectations, troubleshooting, taking immediate corrective actions, and maintaining records of customer communications and technical support functions in company files.
• Assist the sales teams by providing technical presentations and demonstrations to potential customers.
• Communicate customer feedback with marketing, sales, and product development teams.
• Project a positive and professional image in providing timely and thorough follow-up to customer inquiries. At all times act in a manner demonstrating a polite and positive attitude to customers and staff, handling all enquiries to reflect a professional approach and position Affymetrix in a positive manner.
• Must be highly customer centric with the flexibility and willingness to satisfy the urgent support needs of clinical diagnostics customers.
• Developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers to ensure satisfaction. The following are key attributes required for the selection process:

• Bachelor’s degree required but PhD/Master's degree in the life sciences preferred.
• At least 3-5 years related experience with molecular biology techniques.
• May require evening or weekend travel to provide on-site support to clinical diagnostics customers.
• Prior field experience supporting microarray or clinical diagnostics customers preferred.
• Outstanding problem solving and interpersonal skills.
• Requires strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Organizational skills and the ability to adhere to timelines/schedules are essential.
• Knowledge of DNA microarray technology and an understanding of applications such as gene expression profiling, genotyping and chromosomal copy number analysis are desired.
