Formulations Scientist - Formulator

This position is a 6 month contract to hire position (stong chance to go direct / perm)

Summary:

 

The Company needs a Ph.D. Formulator.  The candidate may have worked within R&D in a pharmaceutical company (which includes generic companies and/or pharmaceutical contract laboratories), but we will also consider a candidate who has just obtained a Ph.D. with no prior industry experience.  Will be a member of a department of 6 Scientists (Formulations & Analytical Chemistry).

 

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for pre-formulation and formulation work for assigned projects.  It includes characterization of physical and chemical properties of the active and major ingredients, experiment design, formulation, and formulation stability.  Develop formulations of dosage forms as required to meet project objectives.  Write formulation development reports.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

·  Develops formulas acceptable for clinical study leading to IND (Investigational New Drug) filing.

·  Performs pre-formulation and compatibility studies.

·  Optimizes existing formulas.

·  Uses basic analytical techniques to characterize development formulas.

·  Issues reports on development activities.

·  Issues formulations and directions for inclusion in the company’s documentation system.

·  Documents development activities in notebook or other acceptable format for company archive.

·  Prepares protocols for development studies (e.g. permeation, compatibility, stability).

·  Follows and summarizes experimental stability studies.

·  Maintains laboratory environment.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

§  High level knowledge of formulation and pre-formulation techniques.

§  High level knowledge of experiment design and data analysis.

§  High level knowledge of drug skin permeation techniques.

§  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

§  Computer skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet literature search.

 

Minimum Education & Experience:

·  Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences. 

·  0-3 years pharmaceutical formulations experience-topical pharmaceutical products preferred.

 

Equipment:

·  Should be skilled in standard laboratory equipment, permeation equipment, HPLC equipment and Personal Computer.
