General Ledger Accountant

Ardea Biosciences is focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of novel treatments for HIV, cancer and inflammatory diseases. We currently have an opening for a General Ledger Accountant.

The primary responsibility will be to perform various tasks supporting the company's monthly, quarterly and annual close process.  Reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare general journal entries, and perform variation analysis.  Prepare analytical review of operating statements and monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures. ResponsibilitiesProcesses high volume of payables with the MAS500 accounting system.Ensures accurate and appropriate expense allocation.Pays according to payment terms, and processes weekly check runs, obtains appropriate levels of approvals and supporting documentation; coordinates wire transfers as appropriate.Follows all departmental SOPS and complies with SOX standards.Files appropriate electronic and paper files.Reconciles any discrepancies between payables and invoices through to closure.Monitors and resolves any discrepancies with purchasing process, and electronic work flow.Maintains a professional and effective relationship with vendors.Assists in the maintenance of the general ledger as well as monthly close.Other responsibilities include coordination of the clinical development monthly accruals, fixed assets and depreciation, and accounts receivable and billing.Assists with special projects as needed.Carries out job responsibilities and assignments safely and maintains a clean and safe work area.Other duties as may be necessary.

 Preferred RequirementsAssociates (AA) or Bachelor’s (BA) in finance & accounting, business or related discipline.At least two years’ experience in accounts payable, preferably within a public company setting.Prior experience with an accounting system, such as MAS500, Great Plains, etc.Excellent and demonstrated skills in computer applications.  Must have expert knowledge in word and excel; database or document management experience is a plus.Ability to multi-task and prioritize amongst a variety of responsibilities, set expectations and provide deliverables as expected.Must have ability to listen, communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) and to interact with all levels within the organization.  Excellent reasoning, interpersonal and organizational skills, and superior attention to detail. High attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and team environment.
