Reporting to the Vice President, Analytical Sciences, the Global Head will lead Analytical Sciences within the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) supporting biological and chemical analytics for the drug discovery. Responsible for creating and communicating the vision for Analytical Sciences, he or she will drive the 70 person team to establish and maintain state-of-the-art analytical sciences according to NIBR strategy and specific Disease and Functional Area needs. The Global Head will enhance NIBR and Analytical Sciences through unique, leading edge, new to the industry science and technologies while developing innovative analytical methods and technologies, and establishing new research efforts and initiatives. Demonstrating his or her broad knowledge of analytical sciences and their application to the drug discovery process; the Global Head will identify trends and anticipate future changes, ensuring high quality of science and impact of analytical sciences on the drug discovery process. The Global Head will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships both internally and externally to the organization. He or she will leverage these relationships to remain informed and achieve goals that might not be attainable through formal channels. Further, the Global Head will foster individual and group development --coaching, mentoring and developing analytical scientists-- by utilizing professional education, training and other tools while developing a culture promoting behaviors that lead to superior performance. Additional areas of responsibilities include: Sets and operates within financial and headcount budget; Develops and maintains analytical sciences network across NIBR; Provides comprehensive medium- to long-term research strategy for Analytical Sciences; Balances portfolio (resources, risk and time horizon) of research projects and technology development; Ensures top quality of people and range of analytical capabilities; Proposes major new external collaborations or analytical techniques;QualificationsThe successful candidate will have a PhD in Chemistry/Biology with a minimum of 10 years leadership experience. He or she will have prior research/scientific leadership experience with analytics supporting drug discovery projects; and in bringing a drug through discovery and development. Additionally, he or she will have prior experience in key senior management level decisions, providing scientific direction and operating independently. Leadership experience will be in a variety of settings, including scientific management, financial and operational management as well as in establishing/organizing a global department. Accomplishments will include major scientific discoveries, technical expertise and leading publications.
