HR Business Partner
Position Objective:To provide development, implementation, and operational management of human resource services for multiple customer groups of moderate size and scope in recruitment and employment, compensation, benefits administration, employee and/or labor relations, organization development, training, AAP/EEO and special projects. Coordinates activities with HR specialists in Benefits, Compensation, Recruiting and HRIS. Participates actively in strategy development for Invitrogen global HR. Nature and Scope This position interacts with varying levels of personnel requiring the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing Invitrogen’s HR policies and programs and the interpretation of them. Effectiveness in this role requires a functional knowledge of corporate operations and product line as well as a full understanding of HR industry practices. The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with solid judgment and discretion is critical. The incumbent determines own practices and procedures and leads and/or contributes to the development of new concepts. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions; proposed solutions are expected to be both creative and practical. Position determines own practices and procedures and contributes to the development of new concepts. Performs duties independently with only general direction given. Job encounters problems of diverse scope and the highest complexity where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Accuracy is required in performing all functions of this position; mistakes in work could cause significant data errors and financial loss. The incumbent must possess self-motivation, enthusiasm, and a positive demeanor toward the job, the company and their work team. Essential Functions:o In conjunction with hiring managers and the HR Recruiting group, recruit, interview, screen and evaluate candidates. Identify and implement new recruitment and retention strategies.o Provide input to the HR Recruiting group regarding positions that are difficult to hire or retain and recommend resolution strategies. o Assist departments in developing affirmative action goals and consult with hiring managers and the HR Recruiting group regarding those goals during the selection process.o Ensure legal and regulatory requirements (e.g. exempt/non-exempt status) are considered. o Participate with the HR Compensation group on job evaluations and grading reviews. o Identify data needed for effective HR management and design, conduct and respond to a variety of compensation, benefits and employment practices surveys pertaining to assigned areas of responsibility. o Participate with the Compensation and Benefits team to perform internal equity and external market reviews of the assigned customer group and make recommendations to leadership regarding compensation. o Stay abreast of employee feedback regarding satisfaction in these areas. o Respond to employee and applicant questions regarding benefits enrollments, changes and policy interpretation. o In conjunction with HR Benefits group, coordinate communications and completion of open enrollments, annual performance reviews and other compensation and benefits related activities for assigned customer group. o Provide advice, counsel and guidance to managers on performance management issues such as appropriate corrective counseling, training and development, and progressive discipline techniques and processes. o Review documentation to ensure consistency with Invitrogen policies and procedures.o Coordinate the performance appraisal process for the assigned customer group. o Recommend and implement solutions for maintaining a positive work environment. o Counsel employees and managers on career planning, conflict resolution and work related problems. Conduct exit interviews. o Ensure compliance with all state and federal statues and regulations including but not limited to all applicable wage and hour laws, and regulations related to CPDL, FMLA, OSHA, EEO and ADA. o Coordinate and deliver training and education to assigned customer groups; complete training and development assessments in conjunction with the Organizational Development group.o May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.Education:Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or other related discipline, or the equivalent knowledge and experience is required. Professional certification in Human Resources and/or graduate coursework preferred.Experience: Requires a minimum 3 years relevant professional level human resources experience, including background that is wide-ranging in the HR area having required comprehensive analysis of complex situations, creative problem-solving and strong influence skills. Familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations, as well as demonstrated organizational and verbal and written communication skills are required. User level working knowledge of HR information systems required.
