Histologist II (260483-560)

Oversees the histology lab and conducts histological analysis on tissue samples supplied from various in vivo studies conducted by Smith & Nephew Endoscopy and its collaborators. Is involved in product development teams from concept through feasibility to full development. Provides technical expertise as part of study designs and develops/introduces new histological techniques as and when required.

1. Works within assigned cross-functional team with responsibility for determining and conducting the appropriate histological analysis for samples derived from in vivo studies. Delivers a high quality service and generates analysis in line with pre-set deadlines in accordance with schedules.
2. Supplies technical expertise and capabilities in histological analysis, specifically in the area of musculoskeletal tissue repair.
3. Manages the histology lab and ensures the lab is fully equipped and capable of conducting required analysis.
4. Interprets histological findings and puts them in relevance to the objective of the in vivo study.
5. Communicates work results to management and to rest of R&D team in oral and written manner.

Required Skills:

B.S. degree in a Life Science or Pathology.
Minumum of three (3) year hands-on experience in histological processing and analysis. Preferably in the area of musculoskeletal tissue repair.
Must possess good laboratory skills.
Good technical skills in histological processing, sectioning, staining and interpretation of musculoskeletal tissue samples. Experience in processing tissues with implanted materials preferred.
Prepared to travel in first 12 months to undergo any required training (20%)
Basic microscopy and image capture skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, and communication skills both written & verbal. Diplomatic & tactful.
Strong team player and contributor. “Hands-on” approach.
Collaborative, flexible, adaptable & responsive. Ability to work under basic supervision.
