Instrument Mfg Tooling Engineer (247616-609)

Contribute your technical manufacturing and project management skills to a dynamic development team creating precision instruments for minimally invasive robotic surgery. This broad leadership position is the interface between development and manufacturing in the development process for new products.





Roles and Responsibilities:







Apply engineering principles to design, develop, test and modify new and existing tooling in the shortest possible lead times.
Design, documentation, calibration and maintenance responsibilities for custom production and field service tooling/fixtures.
Evaluate designs for manufacturability (with respect to self-alignment/jigging features). Provide suggested change proposals, or tooling concepts during early design process phase.
Provide tool and fixture training to assemblers, operators and technicians.
Upon tooling design completion, procure, assemble, and perform qualifications for seamless introduction into assembly/test processes.
Review/approve all tooling ECOs & determine the impact on manufacturing/field.
Provide annual tooling and fixture capital budget input.
Assume Project Management role on assigned projects.
Review all tools and fixtures along with capacity plan. Plan and procure replicate tooling as required, performing all necessary re-qualifications.
Knowledge in machine tool, product assembly, machining techniques, machine fixture applications and methodology.

Skill/Job Requirements:




BS, or equivalent, plus 5 years minimum relevant work experience.
CAD experience required (ProE, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
“Hands-on” machine shop skills desirable.
Experience in JIT (Just-In- Time) and/or DFT (Demand Flow Technology) manufacturing principles is desirable.
Mid/high volume complex mechanism manufacturing engineering experience preferred. New product introduction/development desirable. Robotics knowledge a plus.
Good communication skills, verbal and written, great attitude, eager, willing/able to take initiative and works well with others in a team environment.
Experience in ISO 9001, or cGMP environment is a plus.Ability to travel to Mexico periodically
