Laboratory Manager
Accugenix of Newark, DE, the leader in microbial identification and characterization, is seeking a Laboratory Manager. These responsibilities include managing laboratory support staff and maintaining an adequate inventory of research lab glassware, materials, and laboratory equipment. The successful candidate will ensure effective operation of all laboratory equipment. Ensure that all laboratory functions are carried out within regulatory and GMP guidelines are in accordance with 21 CFR parts 210 and 211. Position: Laboratory Manager

Reports To: Vice President of Operations
FLSA Status: Exempt - Professional
Summary: Responsible for managing laboratory support staff and maintaining an adequate inventory of research lab glassware, materials, and laboratory equipment. Ensure effective operation of all laboratory equipment. Ensure that all laboratory functions are carried out within regulatory and GMP guidelines are in accordance with 21 CFR parts 210 and 211.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Provide daily direction and communication to employees so that all laboratory functions are carried out within regulatory and GMP guidelines. Provide continual evaluation of processes and procedures. Responsible for suggesting and implementing process improvement methods to improve lab operations, efficiency and service to both internal and external customers.
Ø Development, implementation and maintaining of routine equipment calibration schedule, sends equipment for calibration, and updates the equipment database accordingly. Works with QA to ensure adherence to calibration schedules.
Ø Ensure maintenance, repair and cleaning processes for all laboratory equipment.
Ø Responsible for culture purity, DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, ordering laboratory supplies, disposal of microbe cultures, chemicals, and glass in the proper waste containers, receive customer samples, unpacking, logging and streaking.
Ø Coordinates with the Technical Operations Services Team to report, record, and resolve out of specification findings, deviations, and customer complaints.
Ø Schedules, directs, tracks, and documents all quality control testing of raw materials and reagents. Ensures quality testing is performed in a timely fashion and designates resources to complete testing.
Ø Responsible for specific customer requests and the implementation of any research and / or development projects.
Ø Responsible for complying with all aspects of laboratory safety, safety stations, safety manual, safety SOP and MSDS sheets.
Ø Provide support for regulatory agencies as required.
Ø Provide statistical and performance feedback and coaching on a regular basis to each team member. Write and administer performance reviews for skill improvement.
Ø Be available for employees that experience work and/or personal problems providing appropriate coaching, counseling, direction and resolution with the guidance of the HR Director.
Ø Ensure employees have appropriate training and other resources to perform their jobs. Respond to and resolve employee relations issues expressed by team members; create and maintain high quality work environment so team members are motivated to perform at their highest level.
Ø Address disciplinary and/or performance problems according to company policy. Prepare warnings and communicate effectively with employees on warnings and make effective/appropriate decisions relative to corrective action as required with the guidance of the HR Director
Ø Share continual responsibility for deciding how to manage the employees ensuring samples are handled efficiently and effectively.
Ø Establish work procedures and processes that support company and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic directives.
Ø Use appropriate judgment in upward communication regarding department or employee concerns.
Ø Analyzes and controls expenditures of the department to conform to budgetary requirements.
Ø Other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience BS in Microbiology or related field is required and five to seven years laboratory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Laboratory management experience or training in personnel management.
Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, molecular weight, mol concentration, and volume dilutions. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, molecular biology and microbiology.
Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing / lab areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and lab coats.
