Laboratory Technician and Boiler Operator

Summary

 

Hands-on person licensed to safely operate and maintain boiler.  Will perform biological and chemical tests on various types of samples and microbial cell cultivations on plates and in flasks and Fermentors.  Collects samples and analyzes feedstocks and product stream.  Responsible for media preparation, nutrient feeds, buffers and reagents for cell culture and analytical work.  Maintains laboratory equipment and may be required to work on rotating shifts and/or provide coverage on evenings, weekends and holidays.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

 

§  Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of boiler.  This includes understanding of fuel, stack, operation and record keeping requirements.

§   Troubleshooting problems with boiler including low water, loss of air flow, gas pressure, main flame failure and safety testing.

§  Perform biological and chemical test on various types of samples using HPLC, GC, and Spectrophotometer.  Tests and maintains equipment.

§  Collect samples and analyze feedstocks and product stream at intermediate processing stages and as finished products following standard operating procedures.

§  Advanced instrument troubleshooting, applies biological and chemistry knowledge in problem solving.

§   Perform microbial cell cultivations on plates, in flasks and Fermentors.

§  Prepares media, nutrient feeds, buffers and reagents for cell culture and analytical work (repetitive assays).

§  Accurately record experimental work and data in research notebook.

§  General laboratory maintenance.

§  Comply with all safety regulations and company policy.

 

 REQUIREMENTS

 



§  Associates degree in science or related field.

§  Minimum 2 years experience.

§  Ability to troubleshoot boiler problems and advanced instrument troubleshooting skills.

§  Good working knowledge of steam and hot water boiler systems.

§  Knowledge of general mechanical repairs, plumbing including leak repairs.

§  Excellent communication skills.

§  Ability to effectively work individually and in a team.
