Linux Systems Administrator

Occupation: IT/Software Development Pacific Biosciences is developing a breakthrough technology that sequences DNA at the single molecule level in real time. Our single molecule, real time (SMRT™) technology is a new paradigm for whole genome analysis. Pacific Biosciences is looking for an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic Linux System Administrator with experience supporting product development in a fast paced software development group. This individual should feel comfortable working along side senior development engineers while providing technical recommendations to increase the overall performance and robustness of the system. They should enjoy a dynamic environment where they’re forced to take on new technical responsibilities as the project evolves. Requirements: Candidates must have at least 3-5 years of System Administration experience. A degree in Computer Science or equivalent field experience is desirable. Candidates must have a strong background in Linux system administration. Direct experience with Ubuntu/Debian a plus. Source code control systems experience is desirable (particularly Perforce). Experience with cluster computing is desirable. Knowledge of RAID support, both hardware and software is desirable. Strong knowledge of networking and TCP/IP based communications, to include but not limited to, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN networking. Excellent knowledge of server hardware and troubleshooting skills is required. Prefer candidates with experience scripting in Bourne, Bash, Perl, Python, and/or C. Excellent organizational, project tracking and communications skills are required. A strong sense of focus and excellent attention to detail even while working in a very fast-paced energetic environment.
