GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE: • Perform variety of activities relating to inventory control, shipping, and receiving accurately to meet company standards of quality, customer service, safety, and productivity. This position is able to perform any departmental function and exercise judgement in performing daily duties including problem identification and resolution. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Able to perform all activities relating to shipping, receiving, and distribution of materials/supplies with minimal supervision and guidance. • Maintain stocking inventory organization, resolve and/or trace problems on negative/back order reports. • Confirm internal stock requisitions using computer system and resolve ordering/delivery errors with RCP’s/buyers. • Monitor inventory levels for ordering purposes, provide feedback to buyers in regards to adjusting part master information. • Conducts physical inventories and cycle counts on semi-annual basis. • Enter requisitions into computer system for stocking inventory based on part movement history and other analysis. Resolve discrepancies with RCP’s and buyers. • Assists supervision in providing daily work direction to staff. Provides technical direction to other staff members and internal customers, direct training of less experienced staff. • Resolve discrepancies identified on purchase order receipts with assistance from RCP’s, buyers, and supervision. • Assists in the preparation of and applies for necessary permits including but not limited to CDC and CITES permits. • Accurately maintains records in areas of responsibility and forward to supervision as specified. • Operates any material handling equipment safety and efficiently as required. • Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area. Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse area. Comply with OSHA and MSDS standards. • Recognizes unusual situations, takes immediate action, and notifies supervisor of action taken. • Must be able to perform physical duties common to material handling such as pushing, pulling, carrying, and standing or walking for extended periods of time. • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on frequent basis. • Overtime and weekend work as required. • Mandatory immunizations and screening as required. OTHER JOB DUTIES: • Charge material handling equipment as needed. • Performs other related duties as assigned. • Maintains well-documented records of work progress. • Carries out self-development efforts as directed. Special Factors: •Company sponsored DOT/IATA Certification required within 6 months of hire. •Responsible for shipping hazardous and temperature controlled materials. GUIDELINES FOR PROMOTION: • Demonstrates consistent and sustained capability and willingness to perform in a lead worker role. • Progress towards completing Covance Pre-Management Training Program. • An organizational need. Experience: • Experience/certification in shipping dangerous goods. • 3-5 years of applicable warehouse/material handling experience. • Ability to lead and coordinate daily activities with material handling staff, supervision and lab/office staff. • Must be able to accurately read and record information. • Must possess basic math skills. • Communication skills, both oral and written are essential. • Working knowledge of personal computers necessary. • Familiarity with the operating of material handling equipment is required.
