ISTA Pharmaceuticals is a publicly traded (NASDAQ: ISTA) specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of unique and uniquely improved ophthalmic products for serious conditions of the eye.
ISTA is currently promoting three FDA approved products; Istalol(TM) (for the treatment of glaucoma), Vitrase® (for use as a "spreading agent") and Xibrom(TM) (a topical ophthalmic NSAID for the treatment of post cataract surgery inflammation and pain). Recently ISTA filed it's fourth product, T-Pred, a combination steroid antibiotic with the FDA. We have other prescription products under development, including ecabet sodium, for the treatment of dry eye, Caprogel® for the treatment of hyphema, Iganidipine and Latanaprost for the treatment of glaucoma, and Bepreve (TM) for the treatment of ocular allergies.
In order to further build our pipeline as a specialty pharmaceutical company, we expect to acquire complementary products in ophthalmology, either already marketed or in late-stage development. Our management team has extensive experience in the development and commercialization of ophthalmic pharmaceuticals. Our Ophthalmology expertise can be found in the Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Clinical, Regulatory and General Management functions.

Overall Purpose:
Performs analysis and provides recommendations based on the analysis to increase the productivity and ROI of ISTA resources. Routinely analyzes marketing programs, marketing research, Territory Manager deployment, call and sample activity, prescription and sales data to determine the maximum return on ISTA resources. Utilizes thorough knowledge of internal and external data sources to provide recommendations to sales and marketing team. Analyzes managed care contracts for return on rebates. Conducts product and market reviews to assist in business development evaluations. Interfaces with the finance team in support of overall ISTA budgeting process.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities
• Analyzes sales and marketing programs and determine ROI of resources invested. Recommends changes when appropriate.
• Analyzes prescription and direct sales data and recommends changes in deployment and/or resource spend to maximize sales and contribution.
• Takes national data from IMS (prescription data) and Cord (Vitrase data) down to the Regional and Territory levels to assess performance and align with the Compensation Plan.
• Coordinates the ISTA budgeting process for Sales and Marketing.
• Directs data suppliers to provide information to Marketing Managers and Business Development. Uses the data to forecast future sales and program values to determine recommendations.
• Takes concepts from Marketing Managers and develops marketing research guides to provide information for analysis and forecasting.
• Works with wholesalers to receive and analyze inventory reports.
• Compiles and analyzes sales force activity for sales reps and managers.
• Trains Sales Management and Territory Managers to understand and analyze the data provided to them.
Other Responsibilities
• Assists Marketing Managers with program development and execution.
• Assists Sales in calling on customers.
Qualification Requirements:
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree. MBA preferred.
Minimum three years business analyst experience in a commercial pharmaceutical company.
Minimum two years experience as sales representative in a pharmaceutical company.
Knowledge & Abilities
• Experience in analyzing 3rd party pharmaceutical data ( IMS/NDC)
• Financial modeling skills
• Experience developing forecasts and performing sensitivity analyses
• Computer literate (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
• Team player with outgoing personality
• Flexible
