Manager, Purchasing - D06

Job Summary –Develops, manages, and continuously improves the purchasing department, monitors the supply market, and leads/participates in Strategic Sourcing Projects. Hires, manages, coaches and develops professional staff consistent with Strategic Sourcing job descriptions. General Functions –§ Leads/participates in Strategic Sourcing Projects in multiple commodities/multiple projects.§ Internal/External customer focus to address complex issues.§ Develops strategy to improve the processes, procedures, and project flow in Strategic Sourcing.§ Builds and maintains supplier relationships assuring an adequate supply base for commodities within their group.§ Coaches Buyers and Purchasing Agents in effective purchasing methods, practices, Zimmer policies and practices.§ Investigates and analyzes supplier’s financial condition, technical competence, facilities, and production techniques to ensure adequate supply sources.§ Develops contingency plans for commodities and/or strategic suppliers.§ Conducts regular performance reviews of suppliers.§ Develops ongoing negotiation strategies and managing against short- and long-term market forces which affect department.§ Creates project plans, implementation strategies, and executes plans.§ Performs sophisticated analyses of market dynamics. Develops price control strategies based on total cost & product life cycle§ Works collaboratively with Finance and customers to identify and exploit cost savings opportunities.§ Understands financial reports, currency exchange issues and interprets supplier’s balance sheets.§ Purchasing Manager roles will require supervisory responsibilities for a commodity group. In these cases the following functions will be included, but not limited to:o Ensures that all activities are in compliance with company policies and practices.o Defines, delegates, and levels responsibilities within team environment. Coordinates work efforts when necessary. Measures performance of team against established goals.This is not an exhaustive list of duties or functions and may not necessarily comprise all of the "essential functions" for purposes of the ADAExpected Areas of Competence § Demonstrates the expected areas of competence identified in the Purchasing Agent & Buyer job description along with the following:o Multi-commodity experience required.o Responsive to internal/external customers at all levels in the organization with self confidence and composure.o Negotiating including developing contract strategy, implementation, and contractual negotiating.o Prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management o Proactive visualization to plan for and anticipate changes and their effects.o Problem solving ability to proactively find multiple solutions to a problem and make recommendations to management.Education Requirements – Bachelor degree (Business, Finance, Engineering or related fields); MBA preferred and 7-10 years of purchasing experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.Skill Requirements – Advanced knowledge of planning and purchasing systems; Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and budgeting practices, and complex financial concepts. Advanced knowledge of contract law and experience in contract writing, Proficiency with personal computers and software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word); effective analytical, organizational, and communication skills are required; Strong team skills and the ability to act as key facilitator with operations and suppliers to affect change within the sourcing category; advanced knowledge of the total supply chain. Extensive experience with J. D. Edwards or similar ERP software.Licenses/Certifications –C.P.M. is requiredTravel Requirements – 15% - 20%Education: BachelorsJob Level: 8 - 10 yearsPercent Travel: 11-20%
