Work in a safe and responsible manner in order to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace. Manage the Industrial Hygiene, Safety and OHS Departments to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Corporate requirements.  Recommend solutions for all facets of process safety issues.  Provide capital project support, site program activities in process safety management, emergency response and fire protection, including development, resource planning, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up.  Perform routine interface with site management, outside agencies, regulatory inspectors in the review of facilities, processes, procedures and policies and for identifying policy level issues requiring management action.  Coordinate regulatory customer internal audits of sites, programs, products, procedures, resolutions of audit findings; as well as support of emergency response organization and departmental teams.  Implement appropriate solutions for process safety management issues.  Develop Process Safety Management, Emergency Response, Safety and Health programs.  Prepare site management and corporate Safety regulatory reports, training programs, briefings, analyses, project documentation, and reviews same from other staff members as appropriate.  Provide input in the selection and application of safety and personal protective equipment. Provide input to Legal to protect DSM from possible liability.  Monitor and provide feedback on employee performance, attendance and compliance with company policies and government regulations.  Provide training and/or opportunities for career development of staff.  Provide oversight for the site’s Industrial Hygiene Program to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Corporate requirements.  Manage the site’s Occupational Health Unit to ensure compliance with Federal, State and Corporate requirements.  Comply with all job-related safety and other training requirements.  Perform other duties as assigned.

 

B.S. degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene or other related scientific discipline; 7+ years of applicable EH&S experience within a manufacturing environment; strong technical knowledge of Local, State, and Federal EH&S regulations and standards; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work well and influence others in a team-based environment, with communication capability extending to all organizational levels; ability to prioritize work, develop strategies and meet changing, demanding deadlines while assuring accuracy and completeness of work; strong analytical skills and ability to deal creatively with issues and problems; and ability to wear respiratory protection to perform specific tasks. M.S. degree a plus. Professional Certification desired: CSP, CIH. Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology experience is highly desirable.
