Manager/Senior Manager - Advocacy Relations
Responsibilities:The Advocacy Relations Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with ophthalmology and immunology patient advocate organizations, and for consistent, transparent communication of subject matter including research updates, regulatory milestones and scientific vision. This position is also responsible for developing Advocacy Relations programs and a grant-making strategy that supports Genentech's scientific priorities, patient focus and corporate reputation. The Manager represents Genentech externally at patient events, stakeholder meetings and scientific congresses. This position will collaborate with internal business partners, including Government Affairs, Clinical, Commercial and Managed Care, and work closely with the Product Communications team. Requirements:The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree, secondary degree in Public Health, Social Work, Public Affairs or Journalism is a plus. A Minimum 7-10 years of related experience, including biotechnology, pharmaceutical, healthcare or science-related experience, is required. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of patient and professional group relations and/or knowledge of healthcare policy. A government affairs background or previous experience working for a patient organization/nonprofit/foundation is a plus. Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills, as well as experience in healthcare or social cause communication are essential to this role. The individual must have fluency in all stages of the product life cycle (pre-clinical, clinical trial development, data unblindings, FDA review process and post-marketing activities). An understanding of current scientific and regulatory issues, including research funding, healthcare policy and regulatory oversight is required. The applicant must have a proven track record of strategic planning. Tactical program management and budgeting experience is imperative. The incumbent must have strong analytical, persuasion/negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making and leadership skills. Ability to interact successfully with different functions and all levels of management is required. This individual must also possess strong organizational and teamwork skills.
