The company has over 2,200 employees in the Bay Area, dedicated to every aspect of biotechnology- research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization.POSITION DESCRIPTIONThe Master Mechanic / Controls Electrician keeps Bayer equipment and facilities in compliance with regulatory standards and in good working order. Incumbent will repair and perform maintenance as needed on building infrastructures, production & lab equipment, and all related utility systems. Assignments may be complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in solving problems and making recommendations. Job responsibilities include:• Use of diagrams, sketches, mathematics, operating manuals, manufacturer’s instructions and engineering specifications to facilitate thorough and accurate repairs, maintenance and operation of facilities, equipment and control systems• Repair and calibrate using precision measuring instruments as well as hand or power tools, including installation of conduit and junction boxes + pull & land wiring• Troubleshoot and repair electromechanical malfunctions using manuals, SOP’s, tools, knowledge and experience• Complete corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance per SOP’s• Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating irregularities and adjustments• Provide complete written documentation of work via work orders, pm’s, Cal Reports, CCR’s DR’s, etc.• Prepare maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends• Communicate status of work orders and work assignments to customers and supervisor• Promote safe work practices and work in a safe manner at all times • Complete training requirements as defined in training plan• Train new maintenance personnel as necessary• Maintain technical knowledge by attending education workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks• Assist with improvement projects and perform other duties as directed• Some travel to training classes and seminars will be required• This position is for the First Shift• Overtime may be requiredPOSITION REQUIREMENTS• High School diploma or equivalent• Trade School, Apprenticeship, or three or more years of work experience in one of the following disciplines: plumbing, pipe fitting, welding, electrical, Instrumentation, refrigeration, HVAC, equipment or plant operator, machinist, mechanic, steamfitter, or boiler mechanic • Five or more years of work experience as a Journeyman level electrician (of which, a minimum of three years included troubleshooting industrial mechanical and electrical systems)• Demonstrated proficiency (through examination or work experience) in three of the following disciplines: plumbing, pipe fitting, welding, electrical, Instrumentation, refrigeration, HVAC, equipment or plant operator, machinist, mechanic, steamfitter, or boiler mechanic• Extensive experience with, PLC and DCS systems Desirable skills include:• Trade certification in Refrigeration, Boiler operator, welding, or other pertinent craft• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, food processing, high tech or other heavily regulated industry Additional job requirements include:• Must have good communication skills (oral and written)• May be required to work overtime and off-shifts, including weekends and holidays• Must participate in rotating on call duties to support critical systems and processes• Must be able to provide off-hours emergency maintenance coverage• Must be computer literate: MS Windows, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and possibly Unix• Must be able to read blueprints, schematics, and ladder diagrams • Must always comply with procedures, rules and regulations • Must maintain a safe and clean work environment.
