Molecular Biologist

The Biomarker Center at RTI focuses on developing and using new proteomics, genomics, and metabolomics technologies to investigate diseases at the population and model organism level.  Current research efforts related to the position include examining the interactions of epigenetics with an organism’s proteome and developing new technologies for in depth analysis of the transcriptome.

Responsibilities:
• Carryout individual research project(s)
• Maintain accurate records of work.
• Help prepare publications and present papers at conferences.
• Coordinate activities with other staff.
• Oversee laboratory work of 1 – 3 technicians.
• Maintain compliance with laboratory safety guidelines and regulations.
• Train new hires in general laboratory protocols.

Qualifications:
• MS plus 1 year experience is required.
• BS plus 3 years experience
• Experience with PCR, RT-PCR, RNA isolation, cloning, transformation, blotting, microarrays, and other general molecular biology techniques is required.
• Self-motivation, self-reliance, and ability to work independently are required.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques preferred
• Functional Genomics experience preferred.
• Familiarity with bioinformatic analysis and methods preferred.
• Good communication and organization skills are expected.
• Ability to work as part of a group and promote a healthy working environment is expected.
